El maíz es el grano básico más importante en México; a pesar de ello, se importan grandes cantidades para satisfacer el consumo. El presente artículo tuvo como objetivos determinar los factores que afectan el comportamiento del mercado de maíz grano en México, estimar el efecto del precio de garantía sobre la oferta y analizar mediante escenarios el efecto del precio de importación sobre este mercado. Se formuló un modelo de ecuaciones simultáneas empleando datos anuales del mercado de maíz de 1999 a 2020 y se estimó el modelo por mínimos cuadrados en dos etapas (MC2E). Los resultados indican que aumentar el precio de garantía en 37.4% provoca quela producción crezca en 8.38% y que los efectos de aumentar el precio de importación en 20% origina que la producción aumente 2.1% y el consumo se reduzca 5%. Se recomienda realizar sinergia con otros programas de apoyo al agro mexicano para incrementar aún más la producción y de esta manera avanzar en la autosuficiencia alimentaria.
Introducción. Identificar los factores que pueden aumentar los precios al productor de naranja es importante por los efectos negativos que una caída en el ingreso puede tener sobre los productores agrícolas. Objetivo. Determinar cómo la demanda de la industria y la superficie sembrada de naranja afectan los precios al productor, al consumidor y al mayoreo. Materiales y métodos. Se formuló un modelo sintético del mercado de la naranja en México que consideró la producción en superficies de riego y temporal (ciclo de lluvia), la demanda en fresco e industrial,y diferentes niveles de transmisión de precios. El modelo replicó el valor promedio de las variables más importantes en el mercado de la naranja de los años 2014-2016. Resultados. Un aumento de 5 % en el consumo de la industria productora de jugo de naranja haría crecer los precios al productor en superficies de riego y bajo temporal en 11,1 y 35,8 %, respectivamente, y ubicaría los precios al mayoreo 31,7 % por encima de los precios observados en la situación base. Una disminución de 5 % en la superficie cosechada de naranja tendría un aumento de 15,2 y 49,1 % en el precio al productor en zonas de riego y temporal, con relación a la situación base. Conclusión. La superficie y la demanda industrial son medidas de control que pueden evitar la caída de los precios. Por la importancia que la producción de naranja tiene para los productores, el gobierno debería promover medidas para evitar que el aumento en la superficie de naranja provoque la disminución de los precios y lograr el compromiso de la industria de actuar a través de la demanda en situaciones de emergencia, es decir en los años de exceso de oferta de naranja.
Objetivo: Identificar los principales factores que determinan el comportamiento de la producción y demanda de naranja (Citrus Sinensis) en fresco en México, y cuantificar los efectos entre los diferentes niveles precios reales. Metodología: Se estimó un modelo de ecuaciones simultáneas, conformado por una ecuación de oferta, una de demanda, tres de transmisión de precios y una identidad de saldo de comercio exterior. Se emplearon datos anuales de 1980 a 2018. Resultados: La producción y demanda de naranja en México responden de manera inelástica a sus respectivos precios. Respecto a la transmisión de precios, el precio real internacional no afecta de manera importante al precio medio rural ni al precio promedio real al consumidor (0.2 % y 0.4 %, respectivamente); contrariamente, el precio real al mayoreo sí los afecta (3.8 % y 9.7 %, respectivamente). Limitaciones: Solamente se contrastan algunos resultados, debido a que literatura sobre el mercado de la naranja en México es escasa. Conclusión: Los factores que más afectaron a la oferta de naranja en México son la temperatura y el salario mínimo real; y la cantidad demanda de naranja con un año de rezago y el precio promedio real del consumidor de melón, son los que afectan a la demanda en mayor medida. Se recomienda que las políticas consideren al precio real al mayoreo, porque afecta de manera importante a dos agentes principales en el mercado de la naranja (consumidores y productores) a través de sus respectivos precios.
El Programa de Apoyos al Campo (Proagro, antes Procampo) y la liberación comercial acordada en el Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN) son las políticas más importantes que afectan al sector agrícola de México. Con el objetivo de medir los efectos de Proagro y del TLCAN sobre el mercado de maíz (Zea mays L.) en la Huasteca hidalguense, se estimó un modelo de ecuaciones simultáneas conformado por una ecuación de oferta, una de demanda, dos de transmisión de precios y una identidad de saldo; se usaron series de tiempo de 1994 a 2017. Los resultados indican que el Proagro es un instrumento de política agrícola eficaz, porque incentiva la producción de maíz en la Huasteca hidalguense; por lo tanto, se recomienda continuar con este subsidio e incluso aumentarlo para que el efecto positivo sea mayor. Asimismo, los efectos del TLCAN resultaron muy reducidos, porque la región produce maíz para autoconsumo.
