Os cadernos de fundamentos são instrumentos essenciais para a memória e conflitam com a tradição oral, que está ligada fortemente à ancestralidade e à resistência às novas tecnologias no âmbito religioso. Pode-se entender esses documentos como arquivos pessoais, que são objetos de estudo da Arquivologia e ainda podem ser tratados como diários, onde possivelmente os membros da umbanda e do candomblé retratam o dia a dia e as atividades nos locais sagrados. O cerne da pesquisa está em analisar bibliografias referentes às religiões afro-brasileiras, a fim de demonstrar a proximidade desses documentos com os requisitos e critérios da Arquivologia, assim como, nesses espaços, os membros e adeptos produzem documentos de grande importância para a memória religiosa.
