<p><em>Jatropha curcas </em>L. ( JCL) es una planta tropical en proceso de domesticación con uso multipropósito, principalmente, para biodiesel. La caracterización del fruto permitirá reconocer el aprovechamiento del aceite para la sustitución de la energía fósil y el potencial uso de los otros componentes. Por esta razón, se realizó la valoración e identificación de los componentes del fruto y sus posibles usos en un experimento ubicado en el Tolima (Colombia). Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar, con 15 variedades y 3 repeticiones, mediante el uso de una unidad experimental de 20 plantas establecidas con una distancia de siembra de 3 x 2 m. La valoración del fruto mostro seis componentes: pulpa, semilla, cascarilla, almendra, torta y aceite. La participación de cada componente fue la siguiente: pulpa 73,9 % y semilla 26,1 %. La pulpa presento nitrógeno (1,1 %) y potasio (9,7 %), además de elementos menores (manganeso, zinc y hierro). La semilla mostro dos componentes: cascarilla (29,9 %) y almendra (70,1 %), con un valor energético de la cascarilla de 4.155 kcal/kg. De la almendra se obtuvo aceite (44,1 %) y torta (55,9 %). El aceite presento en mayor proporción dos ácidos grasos: oleico (40,3 %) y linoleico (38,6 %), y la torta, un contenido de proteína del 62,0 %. El aceite de JCL tiene potencial para biodiesel; la pulpa, como biofertilizante; la cascarilla, para la cogeneración de energía; y la torta, para alimentación animal.</p>
Introducción. Jatropha curcas L. (JC) es una especie con potencial para usar su aceite como biocombustible y su calidad se reconoce por la composición de los ácidos grasos presentes. Objetivo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue la identificación y cuantificación de ácidos grasos de genotipos de JC de la Colección Jatropha Colombia. Materiales y métodos. Durante los años 2012-2014 se realizó el experimento en Espinal-Tolima, Colombia, en un diseño de bloques completo al azar con quince genotipos. Se determinó el perfil lipídico de los genotipos por cromatografía GC-MS y GC-FID. Resultados. Se detectaron diez tipos de ácidos grasos en el aceite: cinco saturados (mirístico, palmítico, margárico, esteárico, araquídico); tres monoinsaturados (palmitoleico, oleico y eicosenoico) y dos poliinsaturados (linoleico y linolénico). La proporción fue mayor en ácidos monoinsaturados (45,44 %) y poliinsaturados (34,18 %) y menor en saturados (20,37 %). En los monoinsaturados predominó el oleico (44,62 %); en los poliinsaturados el linoleico (33,95 %) y en los saturados el palmítico (12,41 %) y esteárico (7,43 %). Los resultados encontrados permitieron clasificar el aceite de JC como monoinsaturado-poliinsaturado (oleico-linoleico), lo cual coincidió con lo reportado a nivel mundial. Conclusión. Basado en el perfil lipídico se puede inferir que el aceite de los quince genotipos evaluados en Colombia es apto para uso como biodiésel con base en su constitución lipídica.
Introducción. Jatropha curcas L. (JC), es una especie multipropósito con aplicaciones biológicas, farmacológicas e industriales. Su aceite es reconocido por la composición dominante de los ácidos grasos oleico-linoleico que lo hacen apto como biodiésel en motores de combustión interna, sin hacer cambios importantes al diseño del motor. Objetivo. Identificar en el aceite de cinco genotipos de JC en Colombia los índices de cetano, peróxido, yodo, el valor de acidez, el poder calorífico y verificar si cumplen con las normas para producción de biodiésel. Materiales y métodos. Se realizó un experimento en Espinal, Colombia, en un diseño de bloques completos al azar con cinco tratamientos y tres repeticiones. Los tratamientos estuvieron constituidos por cinco genotipos de JC. Se utilizó el fruto de la quinta cosecha en el año 2015. Del aceite se determinaron cinco ácidos grasos (oleico, linoleico, linolénico, palmítico y esteárico) y cinco factores químicos (índices de cetano, peróxido y yodo, acidez y poder calorífico). Resultados. El aceite de los cinco genotipos de JC evaluados en Colombia presentaron un perfil lipídico con predominancia de los ácidos grasos monoinsaturados (oleico C18:1) y poliinsaturados (linoleico C18:2). Los genotipos de JC evaluados en Colombia presentaron bajos índices de cetano, peróxido y yodo, baja acidez y alto poder calorífico. Conclusiones. Las propiedades de índices de cetano, peróxido y yodo, acidez y poder calorífico en los genotipos evaluados, cumplieron con las especificaciones de la Sociedad Americana de Ensayos y Materiales (ASTM) y de la europea (ENA14214), por lo que se catalogan como materia prima apropiada para la producción de biodiésel.
