Catuaí, independentemente do tratamento. ABSTRACTThis paper aimed to verify the existence of the drought characteristics of resistance in seedlings during coffee development. The material Siriema was compared to Catuaí cultivar. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse, with mesh screen and plastic in experimental area of DBI/UFLA/MG. One used coffee seedlings of 'Siriema' and 'Catuaí' of six months age, containing six to eight pairs of leaves, from the nursery house of Fundação Procafé in Varginha, MG. Before the treatment induction, the seedlings were daily irrigated, then the treatments were estabilished: one group continued to be irrigated and another one was submitted to irrigation suspension. The experimental period lasted 10 days. The experimental unit was composed by one plant with 5 replicates, disposed in freely randomized design. For the adaxial and abaxial epidermis, stomatic index and PP/LF ratio, and no significative differences were found. Considering the spongy perenchym in irrigated treatment, the 'Siriema' showed higher thickness than Catuaí cv., while for the palisada parenchyma there was no difference. The 'Siriema' leaf blade was thicker than 'Catuaí' independent of the treatment. The polar and equatorial diameters of the stomata were higher in non-irrigated treatment for 'Siriema'. For the DP/DE ratio for stomatic density the non-irrigated 'S...
Abstract Morphologic evaluation of madeira-nova (Pterogyne nitens Tull.) seedlings produced in tubes and plastic bags, and their performance in the field. The morphological quality of seedlings of madeiranova was evaluated (Pterogyne nitens) produced in plastic bags and tubes, seeking to reach larger survival and initial performance after the plantation. It was established 4 treatments: T1 -Tubes (50 cm 3 ); T2 -Tubes (288 cm 3 ); T3 -Plastic bags (577 cm 3 ) and T4 -Plastic bags (2090 cm 3 ). The experiment was developed in two different stages. The first one consisted on the production and morphological evaluation of the seedlings, seeking the determination of the following morphological parameters: Stem height (H), Root-collar diameter (D), ratio H/D and weights of fresh and dry matter of the stem, root and total. The second stage was developed in the field with the purpose of evaluating the survival of the seedlings in the first three months after the planting and their performance through the measurement of the height and diameter at the soil level. The seedlings of madeira-nova produced in plastic sacks (2090 cm 3 ) presented values superior statistically in all the phases of evaluation of the morphological parameters in the nursery and performance in the field, 24 months after the planting. The lowest averages for all the appraised parameters in nursery and field, were observed in seedlings produced in tubes of 50 cm 3 .
AbstractLeaf morphoanatomy in seedlings of Schinus terebinthifolius, under different levels of water saturation. The morphological and anatomical leaf characteristics plant species are important indicators of their ecology and habitat The purpose of this work was to characterize the phenotypic plasticity of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi in different conditions of water saturation. The seedlings were grown in plastic tubets, kept in a greenhouse for four months, and irrigated normally. Then they were treated: T1-control, T2-partial flooding and T3-total flooding. After three weeks under flooding leaf comparative anatomical descriptions were done and the following morphological characteristics were assessed: leaf area, specific leaf area, leaf thickness, water content and stomatal density. Over 10 weeks, were observed the adaptive phenotypic changes. We observed an increase in thickness of the base of the stem, leaf chlorosis and abscission, and the appearance of lenticels and adventitious roots. After three weeks of flooding, there were no major changes in the morphology of the leaves, mainly to AF and AEF. In T3, the water content was higher and leaf thickness. There was no difference between treatments for DE. Concerning the anatomy, we noticed that there was a reduction in the thickness of the mesophyll and vein as well as the production of phenolic compounds by some cell types. The intercellular spaces are progressively larger in plants subjected to flooding.
