Scorzonera amasiana Hausskn. and Bornm. was described from type specimens collected by J.F.N. Bornmueller in 1889 but it was not collected again until 1993, when it was found near Amasya, Turkey. Populations of S. amasiana were quite small at that limited locations and were vulnerable to human impacts. Therefore, suitable conservation strategies should be developed immediately in order to protect the species from probable extinction. Here, an additional three small populations are reported. Brief history, morphology, habitat and ecology of this endemic species have been discussed. Its current conservation status was reevaluated with respect to the latest IUCN criteria. A key to distinguish it from the other closely related Turkish species is also provided and its distribution map is appended.
This study was carried out in order to determine the opinions of teacher candidates towards the Teaching Field Knowledge Tests (TFKT) on the Public Personnel Selection Examination (PPSE). For this purpose, an opinion form with 14 closed ended questions and sixteen questions including personal information was applied to the participants consisting of 306 teacher candidates in 16 branches. Except for two of the questions on the opinion form, the others are answered in two steps. While it is necessary to choose one of the options in the first stage, it is desirable to explain why they mark the option in the second stage. Analyses of the data were performed using content analyses. For this, answers by candidates to closed questions are presented in table forms in frequency and percentage rations according to sex. According to the findings obtained, the teacher candidates stated that graduation grades are sufficient to be assigned, they do not want to enter the examination, and if the examination is to be done, it should be made according to TFKT. The examination should also be done in such a way that it does not allow any doubt in candidates. It is recommended that candidates who are graduates of education faculty are assigned to their assignments according to the graduation notes or as a contribution to PPSE.
A revision of four Sempervivum species (S. artvinense, S. brevipetalum, S. davisii and S. furseorum) based on field observation and examination of herbarium specimens (including the type specimens of all names) is presented. Examination of critical diagnostic characters showed that S. artvinense, S. brevipetalum and S. furseorum fall within the variability of S. davisii and should be subsumed as synonyms under this name. Sempervivum furseorum shows minor but consistent morphological and ecological differences as well as a disjunct distribution and is therefore treated as S. davisii ssp. furseorum. Moreover, an amended and expanded description of the species is presented, with notes on distribution, phenology and ecology.
