Introdução: O Programa de Monitoria das universidades públicas proporcionam aos estudantes de graduação experiências desde a inserção ao trabalho docente até o aprofundamento dos conhecimentos da disciplina e aperfeiçoamento da didática do estudante. Objetivo: Este trabalho busca descrever as experiências obtidas em disciplinas do curso de Geografia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), enquanto monitor do Programa de Monitoria de Graduação desta universidade, durante os ensinos presencial e remoto emergencial. Material e métodos: Trata-se de um relato de experiência, na qual aborda as experiências vividas nas disciplinas de Geografia da População e Geografia Rural no decorrer dos semestres de 2019.1; 2019.2; 2020.1; e 2020.2. Resultados: No decorrer dos dois primeiros semestres foram realizadas saídas de campos, práticas em grupos, leituras dirigidas, debates e palestras na qual aproximaram os professores e estudantes no processo de ensino aprendizagem. A intermediação do monitor entre as relações em sala de aula, potencializou a qualidade do ensino em ambas as turmas. Ao passo que os estudantes recorriam aos períodos de monitoria para resolução de dúvidas e indicações de leituras, as discussões em sala tornavam-se mais enriquecidas e participativas. Durante o período de pandemia foi disposto aos monitores, cursos de capacitação de acesso e utilização ao sistema Moodle, na qual abriga ferramentas e recursos imprescindíveis para o desenvolvimento das aulas remotas, visando contribuir com o professor no planejamento e produção de suas atividades para o novo modelo de ensino. Pode-se perceber que durante o ensino remoto, a presença do monitor motivou os estudantes na participação das aulas e entrega das avaliações, o que era tido como grande desafio a ser superado pelo professor da turma, pelo distanciamento dessas relações. Conclusão: A monitoria contribuiu com a qualidade do ensino superior, estimulou a colaboração entre os pares, auxiliou no planejamento pedagógico do professor, bem como na formação profissional do monitor. Ressalta-se a importância deste Programa no atual momento de excepcionalidade, como mediador estimulante das relações de ensino, no intuito de tornar mais acessíveis e menos árduas as atividades remotas, bem como reduzir as distâncias do processo de aprendizagem e da aproximação do professor-estudante.
