We show that tourism to a World Heritage Area generates economic opportunities in nearby rural communities, sufficient to reverse migration to the city. To carry out this test, we used an isolated region with a simple economic structure and a newly declared WHA, and analyzed economic constraints, opportunities, and decision processes at the micro scale of individual households, through qualitative analysis of interviews and on-site audits. Tourism triggered a switch from accelerating decline of rural villages, with closing schools and abandoned buildings and farmland, to accelerating recovery and reinvigoration, with new ecolodges and adventure tours employing household members and other local residents. The switch was assisted by low-interest ecotourism loans. It has also generated new economic opportunities for women specifically, and these have created much greater social freedom and self-determination, now also accepted by men.
Background: Stuttering as a communication disorder can lead to serious problems in interpersonal communication and affect the quality of life of the affected person. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of telehealth in improving its treatment and its effect on maintenance phase of stuttering children. Methods: In this study, all 6 - 12 year-old stuttering children referred to the Speech Therapy Center of Shahid Beheshti Hospital in 2018 were selected by purposeful sampling method and divided into two groups of experiment and control. Children were healthy and without any disorder. All 12 children received a three-month course of treatment with a speech and language pathologist (SLP) weekly one session. Maintenance phase included 8 sessions of 30 minutes over a period of six months. Results: Six children in the experimental group received maintenance phase training exercises by the SLP in the form of audio and video files through the WhatsApp software. Average total satisfaction rating (4.22) the lowest satisfaction score (3.16) highest score (5). According to the total score of the questionnaire,17% of the parents were satisfied at a low rate, 33% of parents were satisfied with the average and 50% of parents were very satisfied. Conclusions: In this study, the efficacy of telehealth on the maintenance phase of stuttering children has been evaluated. Results showed that telemedicine, with its ability to completely remove distance and travel as barriers for both patients and health care professionals is one option. Telemedicine can be a viable alternative to traditional in-person physician-based care for stuttering.
Purpose Considering the diversity of literary sites, various needs and motivations of literary visitors, and the limited research on literary tourists’ experiences, this study aims to explore the literary gaze at Hafez Tomb in Shiraz, Iran. As the visitor gaze encompasses various dimensions of experience, this study connected the two notions to identify the components of the literary gaze and determine the attributes that best describe it. Design/methodology/approach Data sources include semi-structured interviews with visitors and user-generated content on Tripadvisor. The deductive thematic analysis and multiple correspondence analysis were used. Findings The findings revealed the multidimensionality of the literary gaze. The dominant factors that best describe the literary gaze at Hafez’s tomb were the sensory component of the experience, including “seeing”, “smelling”, “hearing”; affective including “anticipation”, “joy”, “trust”; cognitive including “perceiving”, “thinking”, “learning”; behavioural including “literary related”, “general”; and relationship including “tourist-companion”, “tourist-tourist”. Practical implications Understanding the literary gaze can assist site managers and destination marketers in designing the literary experience and developing promotional strategies that reflect the multifaceted nature of the literary experience. Tourism authorities should identify and shape tourists’ perceptions of literary sites to build the city’s image and brand as a literary city. Originality/value This paper used the orchestra model of experience to analyse the literary tourist’s gaze. This modification could explain that the literary gaze has multiple dimensions and studying all the dimensions gives the literary experience greater significance.
