In corneal pathology both, applanation tonometry and impression tonometry do not deliver reliable results on an average. Only intraocular needle-tonometry delivers reliable results in these eyes.
We present the unique case of a 2-year-old girl with congenital athyreosis who acquired primary measles virus infection at the age of 18 months, coincidentally with an Epstein-Barr virus infection. First neurologic symptoms of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis appeared 5 months later, and the girl died within 6 months after a rapid progressive illness. Factors possibly predisposing to this extraordinary disease course-primary measles virus infection at an early age and lack of evidence for immunodeficiency-are discussed.
To the best of our knowledge this is the first patient with a choroidal infiltration as the initial sign of progression of myelodysplastic syndrome to acute myeloic leukemia. Realizing this possibility helps for an early diagnosis and rapid therapy which is so crucial in prolonging life.
Cases of unclear conjunctival or corneal damage and inflammation should led consider Floppy Eyelid as a possible cause. The typical clinical findings make diagnosis easy. As complete stopping of eyelid-rubbing by changing the patient's sleeping habits is mostly not easily possible, for acute therapy of threatening damages to cornea and conjunctiva a surgical shortening of the lid is necessary which stabilizes the lid in order to avoid nightly spontaneous eversion for a long time.
