<p class="16">Covid-19 spurs teachers to carry out online learning. This study aimed to analyze the improvement of students' critical thinking skills through online learning based on Android-based PhET Simulation. This research was Quasi-Experimental using one group pre-test and post-test design involving 27 students of class VIII who program science subjects at MTs Alif Laam Miim Surabaya, Indonesia. The research instrument used critical thinking skills tests that have met valid and reliable requirements. Before and after learning activities, students were given a pre-test and a post-test. The data collected was analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results showed that there was an increase in students' critical thinking skills with an average N-gain of 0.57, in the medium category. The highest N-gain was achieved in the "interpretation" indicator, which is 0.83 in the high category and the lowest in the "analysis" indicator, which is 0.39 in the moderate category. This study concluded that learning science by using an Android-based PhET Simulation can improve the critical thinking skills of junior high school students.</p>
Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan memetakan penguasaan kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa calon guru fisika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa calon guru fisika STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan data kemampuan awal mahasiswa dan teknik tes kemudian data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan kemampuan berpikir analitis dan keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa calon guru fisika STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya terbagi dalam tiga level yaitu level tinggi sebanyak 33%, level sedang sebanyak 50%, dan level rendah sebanyak 17%. Penguasaan keterampilan berpikir untuk masing-masing kriteria adalah satu kriteria berada pada kategori tinggi, dua kriteria berada pada kategori sedang, dan satu kriteria berada pada kategori rendah. Kata kunci: kemampuan berpikir analitis, keterampilan proses sains, mahasiswa calon guru fisika. MEASURING PRE-SERVICE PHYSICS TEACHERS’ ANALYTICAL THINKING ABILITY AND SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS OF STKIP AL HIKMAH SURABAYA Abstract This research is designed to classify pre-service physics teachers’ analytical thinking ability and science process skills. It is a descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted on pre-service physics teachers of STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya. Data collection technique used in this research was the result of students' pretest and test, afterwards the data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. The result shows that the pre-service physics teachers’ analytical thinking ability and science process skills of STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya is divided into three level, those are high level (33,3%), moderate level (50%), and low level (16,7%). The proficiency of thinking skill ability for each criterion is divided into three categories: first, a criterion is considered as high category; second, two criteria are considered as medium category; and third, one criterion is considered as low category. Pandemi Covid-19 mengakibatkan perubahan sistem pembelajaran. Salah satu dampak besar yang dirasakan pada pembelajaran fisika ialah proses perkuliahan praktikum fisika dasar. Praktikum yang seharusnya dilaksanakan di laboratorium dengan peralatan yang telah disediakan menjadi terhambat karena berlakunya kebijakan belajar dari rumah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan solusi alternatif masalah tersebut dengan mengembangkan modul praktikum fisika dasar rumahanyang layak digunakan sebagai panduan praktikum mahasiswa fisika ketika di rumah. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan model pengembangan Four-D. Data yang diperoleh berupa hasil wawancara dan lembar validasi modul. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata hasil validasi oleh dua validator menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dikembangkan berkategori sangat valid. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah modul praktikum fisika dasar rumahan valid secara berdasarkan ahli dan sangat layak digunakan sebagai panduan praktikum fisika dasar bagi mahasiswa. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in changes in the learning system. One of the major impacts felt on learning physics is the process of lectures on basic physics practicum. The practicum that should have been carried out in the laboratory with the equipment provided was hampered due to the implementation of the study from home policy. This study aims to provide an alternative solution to this problem by developing a home-based basic physics practicum module that can be used as a practical guide for physics students at home. This study uses the Four-D development model, which is carried out until the development stage only, namely the limitation of validation on the module. The data was obtained in the form of interviews and module validation sheets. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively, qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that two validators' average expert judgment results showed in the very feasible category. This research concludes that the basic physics practicum module at home is valid and useful for students to use as a basic physics guide.
Laboratory based learning is one kind of blended learning that combines the aspects of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Simultaneously, students can apply the knowledge they have possessed, practice the skills, as well as growing their scientific attitude. Laboratory based learning method has been conducted for studying about measurement instruments, up to measurement data processing. This research aims to determine the effect of laboratory based learning in developing physics teacher candidates’ skills on applying measurement instruments. The design of this research is qualitative in nature involving one class of undergraduate students of Physics Teacher Education Department at STKIP Al Hikmah, which is consist of six students, as the research subjects. Data collecting is obtained through interview result with physics teacher candidates and their laboratory report. Subjects showed higher improvement skills in using measurement instruments through laboratory based learning. Physics teacher candidates have a deeper understanding about measurement instruments that includes using measurement instruments, taking and analysis data, estimating measurement errors, and communicating the result both in written and oral. Laboratory based learning also improves concepts understanding (knowledge aspects) and students’ scientific attitudes.
