Résumé L’étude de l’américanisation de la propagande en Europe occidentale reflète différents questionnements de l’historiographie récente du politique. D’abord, elle permet de percevoir les transferts culturels entre l’ancien et le nouveau continent. Les capacités financières et les ressources intellectuelles ont facilité une forme d’hégémonie américaine après la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale. Ensuite, s’impose la question des représentations de ce que peut être une bonne propagande. À cet égard, la suprématie des techniques américaines est devenue une sorte de lieu commun. Au point que finalement les Européens ont cru emprunter des voies tracées outre-Atlantique quand ils créaient leurs propres instruments de persuasion ou de manipulation. Ainsi se fait jour l’histoire d’une autre illusion dans l’histoire des idéologies, mais qui, celle-là, ne se conjugue par encore au passé.
