Closure of rural schools in Brazil and school transportation between 1990 and 2010: on the opposite way of Rural Education. In this article, we analyzed the policies of closure of rural schools in Brazil from 1990 to 2010, which goes against Rural Education. We debated the issue that involves thousands of communities that, in most cases, are not heard about the closure of rural schools. There is no prior discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of opening or closing schools, disregarding the principle of rural community participation in decisions involving education and public policies for education, directly affecting thousands of citizens. In the study, we used primary and official sources, in addition to scientific research dealing with the closure of rural schools, interfering directly with the sociocultural and political formation of those residing or working in the field. In the period studied, it was registered the closure of 20,958 public rural schools between 1996 and 2002 and 22,983 schools from 2003 to 2010.
