Bei der Wirkung der Narkotica handelt es sich offensichtlich nicht um chemische Reaktionen im engeren Sinne, da einerseits Narkose durch Stoffe bewirkt werden kann, die chemisch ganz verschiedenen Charakter haben und sich nur darin s sind, als ihre chemische Reaktionsf~higkeit relativ gering ist, und da andererseits viele Narkotica den Organismus unvers wieder verlassen. Obwohl man auf Grund der einheitlichen Wirkung annehmen mu~, dal~ es verh~ltnism~ig einfache und grundlegende physikalische bzw. physiko-chemische Reaktionen sind, welche den Narkoseeffekt auslSsen, so war es doch nicht gelungen, eine allseits befriedigende Deutung des Wirkungsmechanismus der Narkotica zu geben. Ftir diesen Mil~erfolg ist sicher nicht ein Mangel an Physiologischen Untersuchungen verantwortlich zu machen, sondern eher die noch ungeniigende Kenntnis der physiko-chemischen Reaktionen in mehrphasigen Systemen.Die vorliegenden Versuche solten einen Beitrag zur Kenntnis solcher Reaktionen liefern, mit deren Eintreten in vivo gerechnet werde n mull und die bei einer Deutung der Narkoticawirkung nicht unberiicksichtigt bleiben dfirfen. Dariiber hinaus wird gezeigt werden, da~ es unter Zugrundelegung der an unseren einfachen Modellsystemen beobachteten Gesetzm~igkeiten mSglich ist, eine Theorie der Narkoticawirkung aufzustellen, welche den in vivo beobachteten Effekten in hSherera Mal3e gerecht wird als die bisherigen Theorien.Den Ausgangspunkt der nachfolgenden Versuche und ~be"legungen bildete die Frage nach der Ursache der Entquellung und Permeabilit~ts-verminderung ffir Wasser und wasserlSsliche Stoffe, welche nach fibereinstimmenden Beobachtungen eine allgemeine Wirkung der Narkotica darstellt und die bei jenen Konzentrationen bemerkbar wird, welche der l~hmenden Dosis in vivo entsprechen.So verursachen z.B. nach Kna/]l-.Lenz 1 NarkofGica in nicht h~molysierenden Konzentrationen eine reversible Verkleinerung des BlutkSrperchenvolumens, die auf eine Entqnellung zurfickzuffihren ist. In diesen Konzentra~ionen, die der Gr6~enord.nung nach den narkotisch wirksamen entsprechen, hemmen die ~ar-kotica die hypotonische ttgmolyse; im Gegensatz dazu beschleunigen hShere Konzentrationen den Austribt des I:[gmoglobins.Andererseits land Kochmann ~, dab diejenigen Konzentrationen, die die Erregb~rkeit des Froschgastrocnemius vermindern oder zum ErlSschen bringen, immer
