SUMMARY :Thorough rheological measurements with water solutions of polyvinylalcohol comprise the flow behavior at both low and high shear rates and elasticity. I n no case flow curves with inflection points could be obtained. The transition from particle solution to network solution was not in accord with theory. Therefore, a modification of the network solution is proposed : we distinguish between networks with free, partial or without penetration. Polyvinylalcohol forms in water net-work9 with poor penetration, on aging a re-ordering takes place. The results suggest that polyvinylalcohol has in solution too a tendency to crystallize. This tendency is supported by high shear rates; it can be influenced positively or negatively by different solution partners.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
