To develop a work plan for reliable and efficient use of water reservoirs, an accurate information about the volume of water stored in the reservoir for the safe operation of the reservoir facilities is necessary. The useful water storage capacity of reservoirs has been steadily declining over the years due to the sedimentation coming with the stream.
The article presents a method for determining the continuous change of the reservoir volume during operation due to sedimentation. A calculation method estimating the dynamics of the sediment distribution in the reservoir has been scientifically developed. The proposed calculation method was tested and compared in the field conditions. The analysis of the data collected in the Chimkurgan, Tashkent and South Surkhan water reservoirs under field conditions based on mathematical statistical methods showed a relationship between the relative turbidity and the reservoir depth. A new method of determining the decrease in useful water volume due to sedimentation in reservoirs has been proposed.
Estimation of aggressiveness of filtration flow in the dam body is gaining importance in providing the stability of reservoir dam and its parts. In order to estimate the aggressiveness of filtration flow in the dam body it is necessary to know the movement pattern of filtration water in reservoir dam and its effect on dam elements. The article brings up the definition of gradients of filtration flow in the dam body, analysis of the reasons of their change by cross section at the example of Tashkent reservoir dam. Besides, chemical composition of water in piezometers has been analyzed, aggressive effect of sulfate salts on piezometers, and their corrosion have been determined. Measures on systematic piezometer observations are mentioned.
Uzbekistan is an inland country with very dry summers and cold winters. The main course of the economy is agriculture. There are two basic kinds of agriculture in terms of irrigation: rainfed and artificial irrigation systems. Therefore, in long dry summers it is reasonable to build water reservoirs to keep enough water resources for vegetation period. Because of sedimentation transport water reservoirs sometimes quickly filled with sediment. Estimating the effects of potential sediment accumulation in reservoirs is an important element in the planning of the dam project. Sediment accumulation in a reservoir may reduce the useful storage of water in this reservoir, change the water quality near the dam, increase flooding level upstream of the dam due to sediment aggradation, influence the stability of the stream downstream of the dam, affect stream ecology in the dam region, etc. This article provides a correlation between the reservoir volume reduction from the bottom to a given level, based on the amount of water flowing into the Chimkurgan reservoir and the river basin monitoring data. Based on the results of observations and calculations, the current state of the reservoir was formed on the basis of GIS tools. In the first step we constructed a flow duration curve, which is the cumulative distribution curve of the stream runoff passing the dam.
Hence evaluating and improving the performance of irrigation systems is of paramount importance in Irrigation Water Management. Researchers are making many attempts to evaluate and benchmark the performance of irrigation systems. All of them have concluded that the non-availability of a detailed database limits their efforts. Keeping this in mind, an attempt is made in this pilot project titled “Infrastructure mapping and Performance Assessment of Irrigation system using GIS and Remote Sensing.” The results indicate that the Irrigation system's performance is satisfactory, but the water supply is not adequate if surface water (canal water) is the only source of irrigation. The analysis of feedback collected from farmers indicates that the positive project impacts agricultural productivity and socio-economics in the command area.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
