Apesar da excelente capacidade extrativa do hexano, ele é derivado do petróleo, uma fonte não renovável. Uma forma de tornar o processo de extração mais sustentável seria a substituição do hexano pelo etanol, um solvente renovável amplamente produzido no Brasil. Processos de extração utilizando etanol foram realizados em escala laboratorial ou piloto. Assim, simulações de processos industriais e análises técnico-econômicas (ATE) de sua viabilidade são de extrema importância. Este trabalho se utiliza do valor presente líquido (VPL) como medida econômica. Os VPLs, com uma taxa interna de retorno (TIR) de 11%, dos processos de extração do óleo de soja utilizando hexano, etanol hidratado e etanol anidro foram comparados. Os processos de preparação, extração e degomagem do óleo de soja foram simulados no software EMSO (Environment for Modeling, Simulation and Optimization). A simulação inclui as principais operações da unidade como: secagem, moagem, quebra, laminação, extração, dessolventização, tostagem, degomagem e refino. Os produtos foram: óleo de soja refinado, farelo de soja e casca de soja peletizada. Os dados termodinâmicos foram estimados por métodos de contribuição de grupos para cada elemento que compõe a matéria-prima e os produtos. Os valores de VPL calculados para um período de 20 anos de operação foram positivos para os casos analisados. O processo que utiliza hexano como solvente apresentou VPL entre 52,6% a 68,8% mais alto que os demais processos. Entretanto, processos que utilizam etanol apresentam menor impacto ambiental e ainda podem ser otimizados.
RESUMO -A extração de óleo de soja empregando etanol como solvente tem se mostrado uma tecnologia promissora. Contudo essa tecnologia ainda não está consolidada e uma análise técnica do processo é relevante. Este trabalho realiza um estudo da etapa de purificação do etanol para seleção das tecnologias considerando como carga o resíduo da extração e utilizando-se de algumas tecnologias de desidratação disponíveis como: destilação alcoólica simples, destilação extrativa com glicerol e destilação extrativa com monoetileno glicol (MEG).
