The aim of this study was to evaluate popcorn genotypes for resistance to the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda. The experiment used a completely randomized design with 30 replicates. The popcorn genotypes Aelton, Arzm 05 083, Beija-Flor, Colombiana, Composto Chico, Composto Gaúcha, Márcia, Mateus, Ufvm Barão Viçosa, Vanin, and Viviane were evaluated, along with the common maize variety Zapalote Chico. Newly hatched fall armyworm larvae were individually assessed with regard to biological development and consumption of food. The data were subjected to multivariate analyses of variance and genetic divergence among genotypes was evaluated through the clustering methods of Tocher based on generalized Mahalanobis distances and canonical variable analyses. Seven popcorn genotypes, namely, Aelton, Arzm 05 083, Composto Chico, Composto Gaúcha, Márcia, Mateus, and Viviane, were shown to form a cluster (cluster I) that had antibiosis as the mechanism of resistance to the pest. Cluster I genotypes and the Zapalote Chico genotype could be used for stacking genes for antibiosis and non-preference resistance.
As espécies encontradas foram; Nezara viridula, Piezodorus guildinii, Euschistus heros, Thyanta spp., Dysdercus ruficolis, D. peruvianus, Leptoglossus zonatus, L. gonagra, Enchenopa gracilis, Toxoptera citricidus, Saissetia coffeae, S. oleae, Coccus viridis, Chrysomphalus ficus, Selenaspidus articulatus, Orthezia praelonga, Mahanarva fimbriolata, M. posticata, Dilobopterus costalimai, Oncometopia facialis, Chrysopa sp., Polistes sp., Diabrotica speciosa, Cerotoma sp., Lagria villosa, Cycloneda sanguinea, Ceratitis capitata, Anastrepha fraterculus e Euxesta sp
ABSTRACT. Influence of planting systems and adhesive trap on the incidence ofFrankliniella williamsi Hood in crop maize. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of different systems of corn planting and the effect of adhesive trap on the incidence of Frankliniella williamsi. The treatments consisted of sowing the corn seed directly on oats dried by glyphosate, tilt oats, cut oats and weeds, incorporated oats, and also conventional planting. Some treatments were associated with adhesive trap of blue coloration, put horizontally in the center of the plot. Results showed that the presence of traps, as well as the different planting systems influenced significantly on the thrips infestation, and the treatments with "dry oats" and "cut oats and weeds" presented smaller incidence of the insect with a decreasing effect along the plants growth.Key words: Zea mays, thrips, pest management, cultural control.
