Las mordeduras y picaduras son un problema de Salud Pública en lugares de climas tropicales como Latinoamérica, si estas no se trataran a tiempo pueden terminar en amputaciones y graves problemas orgánicos, sucesos que ocurren frecuentemente por la falta de conocimiento sobre su etiología y su mal manejo al recurrir a tratamiento empíricos o ancestrales, este problema de salud siempre ha sido descuidado, por lo que la Organización Mundial de la Salud lo ha incluido en la lista de enfermedades desatendidas.
