This study aimes to evaluate the applicability of knowledge of game theory in business simulations and verify the effects of emotions on the decision-making process. Competition simulations were drawn from game theory content and applied to groups of various sizes.During the simulation, participants perform a fictitious dispute with a classmate where the individual results of decisions depends not only on one's actions but also on the opponent's decisions. The competitive environment has been created through awards. Thus the students were urged to develop their own tactics to achieve better results and win the prize. Learning initially occurred through classic trial and error. The simulations results were analyzed in the classroom and after that students had access to the theory and conventional techniques already developed in academic circles. A logit model of qualitative choice was used to analyze the results in different rounds and classes. The experiments results allow to corroborate the theory that in general has proved robust in predicting the behavior of players and strategies in the face the situations presented.
The research analyzes the relationship between rural work gender and education level based on microdata from the Brazilian Federal Government's General Register of Employed and Unemployed. Using data from employment in the states of Ceará and São Paulo as a case study, the descriptive analysis from the demand curve confirms that male workers have higher average salary level than female workers, in rural areas and also in urban areas, regardless of schooling. The research used the calculation of the price elasticity of demand coefficient to capture the behavior of employment in response to wage variations and showed that for illiterate workers job is more stable in Ceará regardless of gender. On the other hand, for São Paulo illiterate workers have less job stability. For workers with incomplete elementary education, the demand for men and women is inelastic for both Ceará and São Paulo. The cross-elasticity coefficients showed that the higher the level of education, the lower the possibility of discrimination as both gender are considered substitute factors of production.
This paper analyzes the challenges and opportunities brought by foreign direct investment in general and in Brazil particularly. The study is based on literature review and statistical data show that foreign direct investments have important effects on the business environment of the host country as they bring productivity improvement, formal employment and income generation, increase on the export level, establishment of firms with high innovation standards and the capacity to improve the quality of national products, with some degree of technology diffusion, increases in the network of suppliers and possible buyers, and the introduction of new strategies of business management, logistics as well as other ways of modernizing industrial structures. It concludes that the major benefits from foreign direct investments are the change on local companies strategies. The study also shows that investments are concentrated on most developed areas and that there is no specific strategy for investment attraction to the less economically favored areas of Brazil.
