RESUMOO crescimento urbano tem grande impacto nos ambientes naturais, em especial nas áreas de fundos de vale. Este trabalho teve como objetivo elaborar uma ferramenta para avaliação preliminar da integridade ambiental de fundos de vale, a fim de fornecer subsídios aos gestores da administração pública no diagnóstico e na tomada de decisões quando da intervenção nessas áreas. INTRODUÇÃOO crescimento urbano está, geralmente, associado com a construção de estruturas artificiais, como redes viárias, redes para abastecimento de água, para coleta de águas pluviais e esgotos. Essas mudanças têm impactos nos ecossistemas aquáticos e sobre o ciclo da água, devido ao aumento e à aceleração do escoamento superficial, à diminuição da recarga de águas subterrâneas, à modificação das vias naturais de escoamento da água devido às canalizações, dentre outros (BRAUD et al., 2013).Ainda no processo de urbanização, podem ser observados impactos significativos na população e no ambiente, acarretando em problemas como poluição e erosão dentro de rios urbanos, além de aumentar a frequência e o nível das inundações (CHU et al., 2013). A urbanização vem se expandindo rapidamente e muitas vezes de forma irregular, adentrando cada vez mais áreas antes rurais. Dessa maneira, o uso e ocupação do solo modifica-se, aumentando o índice de impermeabilização do solo, afetando e degradando a bacia hidrográfica local. Para tanto, este trabalho busca analisar o desenvolvimento e evolução da urbanização na bacia do Ribeirão Maringá, afluente do Rio Pirapó, bem como traçar um índice de ocupação para os próximos anos. Com o uso de softwares de tecnologia SIG e imagens dos satélites Landsat 5, 7 e 8, além de imagens da missão SRTM, foi estudada a bacia hidrográfica a fim de delimitá-la e determinar a porcentagem de ocupação urbana em vários anos entre 1984 e 2014. A partir dos dados obtidos, foi possível projetar a porcentagem de urbanização da bacia para os anos futuros. Constatou-se que, com o uso da tecnologia SIG, a visualização da situação da bacia torna-se mais fácil e assim contribui para o entendimento dos problemas de impermeabilização, uso e ocupação do solo.
