Áttekintésünkben az egyedülálló szülôk testi és lelki egészségi állapotára vonatkozó hazai és nemzetközi szakirodalmi adatokat tárgyaljuk. Ezen téma idôszerû, mivel a nyugati tí-pusú társadalmakban egyre több az egyszülôs család. A szakirodalom nagy része az egyszülôs családban felnövô gyermekeket érintô hatásokkal foglalkozik, pedig az egyedülálló szülôkre háruló többszörös szerepelvárások következtében megjelenô krónikus stressz mind testi, mind lelki egészségromláshoz vezethet maguknál a szülôknél. Ezen a téren is úgy tûnik, megjelennek a nemi különbségek. A gyermeküket egyedül nevelô anyák és családjaik gyakrabban élnek rossz anyagi körülmények között, és a szegénység már ön-magában is megnöveli az esélyét a testi betegségek és lelki zavarok gyakori elôfordulásának. Ezzel ellentétben a nemzetközi tanulmányok többsége azt mutatta ki, hogy az egyedülálló apáknál ritkább a szegénység, és az egészségi állapotuk sem jelentôsen rosszabb, mint a párkapcsolatban élô apáké. A tanulmány végén az irodalomban megjelent egészség-és társadalompolitikai irányelveket ismertjük.Kulcsszavak: egyedülálló szülôk, testi és lelki egészség, krónikus stressz, szegénység BEVEZETÉSA család mint társadalmi egység fogalma korunkban eltér a hagyományos anya-apa-gyermek mikrocsoporttól.
