Este trabalho estuda a imprensa, no caso do episódio da Guerra de Canudos, no final do século XIX, com vistas a observar o processo de construção de uma realidade através de textos jornalísticos que tratam desta questão da história do Brasil. O objetivo deste estudo é entender como os discursos sobre Canudos circularam nos principais jornais de São Paulo e do Rio de Janeiro e na literatura de Euclides da Cunha, Os Sertões. É valido frisar que havia um discurso dominante na imprensa em geral da época com a intenção de direcionar a opinião pública a representar a campanha de Canudos a partir de uma ideologia “civilizacional” de bases culturalistas e raciais.
Primeiramente, agradeço à minha mãe, por ter, desde sempre, lutado pelas minhas vitórias, tanto na academia como na vida. Também quero agradecê -la por ter me contado estórias fabulosas quando eu ainda era criança; isso me fez gostar de literatura e me fez seguir na carreira de Letras.Ao meu pai, na memória, agradeço por ter me despertado, assim como minha mãe, o gosto pelos estudos. Ele me ensinou que podem me tirar tudo, menos o conhecimento adquirido.Ao meu orientador, professor Thomás Haddad, que me acolheu como sua orientanda e confiou no meu trabalho sem ao menos me conhecer. Essa oportunidade foi muito importante para a realização desta dissertação e para a minha realização pessoal. Nessa jornada, eu sempre me senti acompanhada e pude perceber, em cada orientação, dica e auxílio, um profissional dedicado que soube respeitar meu ritmo e "criatividade". Por fim, agradeço por ter me apresentado a área de "História da Ciência", o que tornou meus estudos muito mais interessantes.Ao programa de Estudos Culturais da EACH, por proporcionar uma oportunidade inigualável aos estudantes que, como eu, possuem um projeto de trabalho interdisciplinar, com questões políticas, sociais e culturais.
