Orta Anadolu Bölgesi'nin batı kesiminde yer alan Beyşehir Gölü havzası, hem tarihsel hem de coğrafi anlamda oldukça önemli bir konuma sahiptir. Nitekim Neolitik dönemden itibaren iskân görmüş olan bu alan, değişik kültürlere ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Hititler döneminde hem batıya ve güneye uzanan yol güzergâhları üzerinde bulunması, hem de önemli bir dini merkez olması bölgenin önemini kanıtlamaktadır. Bölgenin Demir Çağı'ndaki durumuhakkında elimizde yazılı kaynaklar bulunmamasına rağmen, arkeolojik veriler Beyşehir Gölü havzasının bu dönemde de yerleşime sahne olduğuna işaret etmektedir. Bölgenin Hellenistik ve Roma dönemleri ile ilgili olarak ise antik edebi kaynaklardan, yazıtlardan ve arkeolojik buluntulardan bilgi edinilebilmektedir. Antik kaynaklardan bölgenin idari sınırlarının sık sık değiştiği anlaşılmaktadır. Nitekim Plinius tarafından Pisidia'nın bir alt bölgesi olarak söz edilen Orondeis'i, Ptolemaios Galatia'da göstermektedir. MS 6. yüzyıl yazarı Hierokles ise, bölge kentlerinin bazılarının Pisidia, bazılarının ise Lykaonia kenti olduklarından söz etmektedir.Bu çalışmada Beyşehir çevresi ile ilişkili olduğu bilinen Orondeis Bölgesi'nin siyasi, sosyo-kültürel ve ekonomik yapısı üzerinde durulacaktır.
Astra, bir Isauria yerleşimi olup Konya iline bağlı Hadim ilçesinin yaklaşık 7 km kuzeybatısında Bolat yaylasında bulunan Temaşalık kalıntılar sahasına lokalize edilmektedir. Isauria'nın başkenti Isaura'ya (Zengibar Kalesi) bağlı büyük bir kome (köy) olduğu anlaşılan Astra'dan çok sayıda yazıt yayımlanmıştır. MS 1.-3. yüzyıllara tarihlendirilen söz konusu yazıtlar, Astra'nın zengin bir kırsal yerleşim olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Astra yazıtları, Isauria'daki bir Roma dağ köyünde rahiplerin dini ve idari konularda aktif rol aldıkları teokratik yanı ağır basan bir siyasal yapının varlığını ortaya koymaktadır. Yine söz konusu yazıtlar vasıtasıyla Astra'da bir bölümü euergesia uygulamasıyla inşa edilmiş önemli yapıların varlığı da belgelenmektedir. Astra'dan yayımlanmış yazıtlarda geçen şahıs isimleri yerleşimin demografik yapısı ve Roma kültürünün sosyal yaşam üzerine etkileri konusunda da önemli sayılabilecek ipuçları vermektedir. Astra'da dini hayata dair yazıtlar çoğunlukta olup söz konusu yazıtlarla bir çok rahibin varlığı belgelenmektedir. Yine yazıtlar sayesinde Astra'da Zeus, Plouton, Poseidon ve Hera kültlerinin varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Bütün bunlar ise yerleşimde dini yapının zenginliğine ve çeşitliliğine işaret etmektedir.
Yeni Babil dönemi tarımsal üretimi ve tarım politikaları Mezopotamya Bölgesi’nde binyıllar boyunca tecrübe edilerek belirlenmiş tarım metotları ve bunlar üzerine şekillenen uygulamalar vasıtasıyla yeni bir form kazanmıştır. Babil toplumunda sözü edilen bu uygulamalar neticesinde toprak mülkiyeti kraliyet ailesi ve kraliyete mensup kimseler, tapınaklar ve özel mülkiyet olmak üzere başlıca üç ana unsur tarafından idare olunmuştur. Bununla birlikte ekilebilir alanların kiralanması da söz konusudur. Dolayısıyla böyle bir uygulama ile hem kraliyet hem tapınak ve hem de sayısı fazla olmamakla birlikte zengin toprak sahipleri ekilebilir alanlardan yüksek kâr ve sabit bir gelir elde etmeyi amaçlamışlardır. Buna göre krallar Babil’in verimli topraklarından en üst düzeyde faydalanabilmek adına bir takım girişimlerde bulunmuşlardır. Bunlar arasında ekilen her bir alanın su ihtiyacının karşılanabilmesi için tarımsal alanların parsellenmesi ve sulama kanallarının tamir ve bakımının yapılması gibi bir dizi reformlar yer almaktadır. Özellikle Nar-Šamaš ve Libil-hegal gibi geniş çaplı kanalların restorasyonu bu projeler arasında yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada Yeni Babil dönemi tarımsal üretimi ve yöneticilerin tarımsal üretimi teşvik edici politikaları üzerinde durulmuştur.
