Introducción. Los pastos tropicales poseen mayor contenido de fibra en proporción con otros nutrientes, esto limita el consumo de materia seca por parte de los rumiantes. El uso de aditivos en el ensilaje permite optimizar el contenido nutricional en los forrajes que pueden conservarse para utilizarlos en momentos de menor disponibilidad forrajera. Objetivo. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de sustituir en ensilados, porcentajes de pasto Megathyrsus maximus cv Mombaza por fruto inmaduro de guineo cuadrado (Musa ABB) y urea. Materiales y métodos. El experimento se desarrolló entre agosto y diciembre de 2016. Se utilizó un diseño factorial con ocho tratamientos. Las mezclas se almacenaron durante sesenta días en bolsas de 5,0 kg. Resultados. El uso de fruto de guineo cuadrado produjo incremento del pH, el nitrógeno amoniacal, y la urea. El fruto también aumentó la concentración de materia seca y carbohidratos no fibrosos, esto mejoró el valor relativo del forraje y el contenido de energía. La urea mejoró en diez unidades porcentuales el contenido de proteína cruda, debido a su aporte de nitrógeno no proteico. El contenido de energía de los tratamientos varió entre 59,5 y 63,6%TND, y la mayor energía se obtuvo en los tratamientos con mayor uso de fruto de guineo cuadrado. Conclusión. Los ensilados con 30% de sustitución con fruto de guineo cuadrado y 0,5 - 1,0% de urea, se pueden considerar una alternativa para alimentación de rumiantes, como complemento de una dieta balanceada.
El objetivo de este experimento fue determinar el efecto de la especie de leguminosa y la fuente de carbohidratos sobre las características físicas y químicas del ensilaje de las mezclas elaboradas a partir de las leguminosas, Arachis pintoi, Vigna unguiculata, Cratylia argentea y Erythrina poeppigiana, con 4 fuentes de carbohidratos (melaza de caña de azúcar, pulpa de cítricos deshidratada, grano de maíz molido y fruto inmaduro de guineo cuadrado). El experimento se desarrolló entre los años 2015 y 2016, este consta de un arreglo factorial 4x4 de 16 tratamientos. Las mezclas se almacenaron durante 50 días en silos de bolsa con capacidad para 5 kg. Los ensilados analizados presentaron características de olor, color y textura de calidad media a buena. Los valores de pH fluctuaron entre 4,5 -5,8 y los valores de nitrógeno amoniacal variaron entre 4,3 -14,6% NH3/NT. Los tratamientos con inclusión de fuentes de almidón y leguminosas arbustivas presentaron los niveles más altos de pH y nitrógeno amoniacal (p<0,05); por lo tanto, fueron las mezclas ensiladas de menor calidad. La concentración de los ácidos grasos volátiles de los tratamientos varió entre 0,83 -6,46% MS para el ácido láctico, 2,48 -6,87% MS para el ácido acético y 0,13 -1,79%MS para el ácido butírico. También se encontró una alta correlación (ρ>0,62) entre la concentración de los ácidos acético y butírico con el contenido de humedad de las mezclas sin ensilar, por otra parte, el ácido láctico presentó una correlación alta, aunque negativa (ρ=-0,74), todas las correlaciones fueron significativas p<0,001. Los tratamientos elaborados a partir de leguminosas arbustivas con azúcares o con pectinas presentaron características físicas y químicas que los califican como ensilados de calidad media a buena. Mientras que los tratamientos elaborados a partir de leguminosas de piso y almidones presentaron características físicas y químicas que los califican como ensilados de regular a mala calidad, esto debido a la poca participación de los almidones en el ensilaje.
<p>Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo, analizar el efecto de la edad de cosecha y la estación climática al momento de la cosecha, sobre el rendimiento de la <em>Cratylia argentea</em> Cv. Veraniega en un sistema de manejo orgánico, desde marzo de 2014 hasta abril 2015. Para este fin se utilizó un diseño irrestricto al azar con arreglo factorial, donde se aleatorizaron tres edades de cosecha del forraje (60, 75 y 90 días) y dos estaciones (lluviosa y seca) en parcelas de 50 m<sup>2</sup>. Cada tratamiento tuvo tres repeticiones. La edad de cosecha y la estación climática influyen en la producción de materia seca y en la composición nutricional del forraje. Conforme aumenta la edad del forraje se incrementa la cantidad de materia seca producida por hectárea; sin embargo, aunque aumenta la cantidad de biomasa producida por hectárea, la calidad de la misma es inferior, ya que, conforme aumenta la edad de cosecha se reduce la cantidad de proteína y la digestibilidad del forraje, además se da un incremento de los componentes de la fibra, los cuales son menos aprovechables por el animal. La degradabilidad de la proteína fue afectada por la edad de cosecha y por la estación climática, los valores oscilaron entre 79 – 91 %/h. A pesar de esto, el forraje de <em>Cratylia argentea</em> bajo manejo orgánico, posee un adecuado contenido de nutrimentos para ser utilizado en dietas de animales rumiantes, ya que permite sostener producciones de 3,01 – 3,26 kg de leche/vaca/día por cada 10 kg de material fresco de acuerdo al requerimiento de proteína cruda.</p>
