Relato de experiência de intervenção do projeto Teatro do oprimido na saúde mental em um Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil, no qual descrevemos como esta ferramenta é capaz de contribuir para o fortalecimento da participação social. O projeto foi elaborado por um grupo de residentes e preceptores da Residência Integrada em Saúde, com ênfase em Saúde Mental Coletiva, da Escola de Saúde Pública do Ceará. Utilizamos a pesquisa qualitativa. Em face do difícil contexto de efetivação da política de saúde mental no município, percebemos que a arte pode contribuir para a construção de uma atenção em saúde efetiva, emancipatória e apta a acolher as diversidades. Na nossa ótica, o teatro do oprimido é uma ferramenta importante para fortalecer a participação social e para reinventá-la, problematizando estigmas e impulsionando a garantia de direitos.
