Debriefing is a form of reflective practice in which participants engage in active self-learning, and developmental intent, while including input from multiple sources. 1,2 In the context of the emergency department (ED), staff are often tasked with resuscitation of critically ill patients. These situations are powerful experiences that can serve as learning opportunities, which can be facilitated by reflective practice. Apart from providing opportunities for knowledge acquisition and improvement of technical skills, debriefing also allows providers the space to process emotionally taxing situations.Debriefing is known to be effective with regard to knowledge, team communication, and even patient outcomes.
