Resumen: En este artículo se presenta un observador de alta ganancia continuo-discreto para estimar las composiciones molares en una columna de destilación para la mezcla Etanol-Agua, empleando las mediciones de las temperaturas en los platos. Una de las principales ventajas de este observador es su ganancia constante, por lo que sintonizarlo dependeúnicamente de la elección de parámetros constantes que deben satisfacer algunas desigualdades algebraicas simples. El observador continuo-discreto presenta un buen seguimiento de la dinámica del proceso a pesar de usar menos datos que un observador puramente discreto. La efectividad del método propuesto para la estimación de concentraciones en una columna de destilación, así como su adecuado desempeño en comparación con la versión puramente discreta del observador, son demostrados empleando datos experimentales. INTRODUCCIÓNEn el control de columnas de destilación la estimación en línea de los estados que no son directamente medibles es un problema fundamental. Un ejemplo de estados del sistema es la composición del producto; su estimación requiere medir variables secundarias como la temperatura, lo cual ha sido propuesto por algunos autores en Quintero-Mármol et al. (1991);Olsen et al. (2002);Tronci et al. (2005).Aplicar leyes de control en columnas de destilación requiere la información continua de las fracciones molares de los componentes (Han, 2006).Ésta puede medirse fuera de línea utilizando cromatógrafos de gases o detectores deíndice de refracción. Sin embargo, con estas técnicas los costos son altos en relación a inversión, implementación y mantenimiento de los instrumentos.Una solución viable consiste en diseñar observadores de estados, también conocidos como sensores virtuales. Para implementar los observadores a sistemas físicos es necesario contar con sus modelos matemáticos, a partir de los cuales se plantea una estructura y así obtener la información para reconstruir las variables que no pueden ser medidas directamente.En el diseño de observadores, es posible fijar el periodo de muestreo (de las mediciones) de acuerdo a la dinámica del sistema. Un método para construir observadores consiste precisamente en discretizar el sistema de acuerdo al tiempo de muestro en el cual se realizan dichas mediciones (QuinteroMármol et al., 1991).Sin embargo, existen procesos en los que el periodo de muestreo de las mediciones es grande y generalmente diferente al tiempo de integración usado para las ecuaciones diferenciales del modelo dinámico; para este caso una alternativa de solución es el diseño de Observadores Continuo-Discretos (OCD) (Nadri et al., 2004), cuya principal ventaja radica en emplear un tiempo de integración (para la etapa de predicción) diferente del tiempo de muestreo (para la etapa de corrección) del observador.
