THE GLOBALIZATION OF CARE AND ITS CHAINS: A CASE STUDYABSTRACT In this text we analyzed an externalization of a chain of care and its conversion into a service from Catalonia to the Philippines. We identified the shifts of gender position for the women implied: from the Catalan employers to the Philippine domestic workers. We also indicated the ambiguous and diffuse limits that installed between care and service relations under mercantile relations. The field research was performed both in Catalonia as well as in the Philippines. We used biographical interviews, interviews aimed at expert personnel, documentary and statistical analysis. For the object of this paper we leaned mainly on the interviews conducted with Philippine domestic workers, Catalan employers of domestic workers, and to expert personnel on migration, gender and domestic work of Catalonia and the Philippines. The techniques of analysis used were content analysis and discourse analysis.
We present the main results of the analysis of the discourses that professors and students (by sex) have elaborated upon a set of university degree courses at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). We analyze, from a gender perspective, what kind of care and provision relationships are referred in such discourses. We identified a shared understanding between professors and students, independently from sex and degree, which emphasizes the provision like main end of the subjects. The incorporation of the dimension of care at weekends appears as a secondary aspect. Key words: university professor, university student, social action, care, provision.
Palabras clave descriptores Género, dolor, fibromialgia, impacto psicosocial, diagnóstico. a b s t r a c tThe aim of this paper is to describe and understand the phenomena of chronic pain without organic cause (better known as fibromyalgia) from a feminist and critical perspective through made of a tool by which to diagnose this pain as bio-psycho-social dimensions: gender psycho-social diagnosis. ABSTRACTIn this paper we analyze the contexts of vulnerability involved in the formation of the phenomenon of chronic pain without organic cause, or fibromyalgia (DC / FM). A key factor that articulates the contexts of vulnerability and subjectivities that they produce are gender rela-tions, we characterize two (traditional and transitional) models. The research from which we derive the data is qualitative by semi-structured interviews, in the context of metropolitan Barcelona (Spain). From the analysis we have made a close relationship between the devel-opment of the DC / FM and social models of gender, both in the context of constitution of subjectivity of the interviewees, child life, and in the context of occurrence follows and development of the DC / FM in adulthood.
