In questo articolo vengono discusse le reciproche relazioni tra rappresentazioni e processi territoriali e in particolare si evidenzia come le rappresentazioni, oltre a fotografare situazioni e trasformazioni in atto, siano in grado di influenzare l'evoluzione degli stessi processi rappresentati. Le rappresentazioni vengono aggiornate con l'evolversi delle forme dei territori così come le forme dei territori possono subire gli effetti dalle loro stesse rappresentazioni. Tra rappresentazione e soggetto territoriale rappresentato si delinea dunque un rapporto di co-evoluzione circolare, secondo il quale non solo il territorio agisce sulla sua rappresentazione ma anche la rappresentazione agisce a sua volta sul territorio rappresentato, rendendo ambivalente il ruolo della rappresentazione sia come conseguenza che come causa delle trasformazioni stesse.
