The relationship between balance, knee muscle strength, jump height and risk of injury has not been clearly stated in female volleyball athletes. The study was to determine whether a correlation exists between knee joint isokinetic muscle strength, risk of injury, balance and jump height in female volleyball athletes. Twenty-two female volleyball athletes were involved into the study. Knee muscle strength were evaluated with the Biodex 3 ® isokinetic dynamometer. Jump performances were evaluated with the countermovement (CMJ) jump test using the Vert Jump ® Motion Sensitive Sensor. The injury risk for all players were evaluated by the Functional Movement Screen (FMS ® ). Balance measurements were performed with a dynamometer Biodex Systems 3 ® device. There was a significant relationship between CMJ height, knee flexion and extension peak torque and H:Q ratio values at two angular velocities, dynamic balance and total FMS ® scores (p < .05). However, contralateral deficit statistically significant were not related between CMJ height, dynamic balance and FMS ® scores (p > .05). We suggest that all clinicians and coaches involved in the protective and preventive rehabilitation phase evaluate these parameters and plan their training programs in line with the results obtained in increasing both individual and team performance of athletes.
Purpose The aim of this study was to analyze the within-week differences in external training intensity in different microcycles considering different playing positions in women elite volleyball players. Methods The training and match data were collected during the 2020–2021 season, which included 10 friendly matches, 41 league matches and 11 champions league matches. The players’ position, training/match duration, training/match load, local positioning system (LPS) total distance, LPS jumps, accelerations, decelerations, high metabolic load distance (HMLD), acute and chronic (AC) mean and AC ratio calculated with the rolling average (RA) method and the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) method, monotony and strain values were analyzed. Results All the variables except strain, Acc/Dec ratio and acute mean (RA) showed significant differences among distance to match days. Regarding the players’ positions, the only difference was found in the AC ratio (EWMA); in all microcycles, the middle blocker player showed workload values when compared with the left hitter, setter and libero. Conclusion Overall, the analysis revealed that the intensity of all performance indicators, except for strain, acc/dec and acute mean load (RA), showed significant differences among distance to match day with moderate to large effect sizes. When comparing players’ positions, the middle blocker accumulated the lowest loads. There were no significant differences among other positions.
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between Functional Movement Screening (FMS) test scores and athletic performances of professional football players. Twenty professional male football players participated in the study voluntarily. Functional movement patterns of the players were determined by FMS test kit and athletic performances were determined by Yoyo test, T drill test, vertical and horizontal jump test, 10 m and 20 m speed test. Spearman Correlation Analysis was used to determine the relationship between FMS test scores and athletic performances of football players. As a result of the study, no statistically significant relationship was found between FMS test scores and athletic performances of football players (p<0.05). In addition, the FMS test total score of the players (14.2 points) was found to be above the limit of injury (14 points). In conclusion, although FMS test scores provide important information about the quality of functional movements and the likelihood of injury, it is not a determinant of athletic performance. This may be due to the combination of several motoric characteristics of athletic performance, although FMS test scores are assessed individually.
ÖzBu çalışma farklı yarışma düzeylerindeki kadın voleybolcuların Fonksiyonel Hareket Taraması (FHT) test skorlarının karşılaştırılması amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmaya midi (n=11), küçük (n=14), yıldız (n=14) ve genç (n=8) kategorilerinde voleybol oynayan toplam 47 gönüllü kadın sporcu katılmıştır. Katılımcıların fonksiyonel hareket kalıpları FHT test kiti ile belirlenmiştir. Farklı kategorideki voleybolcuların FHT skorlarının karşılaştırılmasında Kruskal-Wallis H Testi kullanılmıştır. Sporcuların FHT(Yüksek Adımlama) sağ bacak skorlarında küçük ve midi takımları arasında küçük takım lehine ve FHT (Tek Hamlede Çökme) skorlarında küçük ve yıldız takımları arasında küçük takım lehine anlamlı bir fark tespit edilmesine rağmen (p<0.05) çalışmanın diğer değişkenlerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Ayrıca sporcularda yaralanma ihtimali ile ilgili bilgi veren FHT (Toplam Skorunun) her kategorideki sporcularda kritik sınır olarak belirtilen 14'ün üzerinde olduğu belirlenmiştir (midi=15,27±1,55 küçük=15,85±2,21 yıldız=14,71±1,26 genç=14,5±1,69). Sonuç olarak farklı kategorideki voleybolcuların fonksiyonel hareket becerilerinin yarışma düzeyi ve yaşları ile ilgili olmadığı düşünülmektedir. AbstractThis study was conducted to compare the Functional Movement Screening (FMS) test scores of female volleyball players at different competition levels. A total of 47 volunteer female athletes who played volleyball from the midi (n=11), small (n=14), star (n=14) and young (n=8) categories participated in the study. Functional movement patterns of the participants were determined by FMS test kit. Kruskal-Wallis H Test was used to compare FMS scores of volleyball players who were at different categories. Although there was a significant difference between the small and midi teams in the FMS (Hurdle-Step) right leg scores of the athletes and in favor of the small team between the small and star teams in the FMS (İnline Lunge) subscale scores (p <0.05), there was no statistically significant difference in the other variables of the study. In addition, the FMS (Total Score) which provides information on the probability of injury in athletes, was found to be over 14, which is the critical limit for athletes in each category (midi = 15.27 ± 1.55 small = 15.85 ± 2.21 star = 14.71 ± 1 26 young = 14.5 ± 1.69). As a result, it is considered that functional movement skills of different categories of volleyball players are not related to competition level and age.
Objective: 12 weeks of corrective exercises may improve functional movement screen (FMS TM) test scores of elite female volleyball players. Materials and Methods: Thirteen elite female volleyball players voluntarily participated in the study. The functional movement patterns of the volleyball players were determined through the FMS TM test kit. Corrective exercise protocol was applied for 3 times a week during 12 weeks. FMS TM tests, FMS TM total scores and the differences between the pre-test and post-exercise tests were determined by means of the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: It was determined that total FMS TM scores (19.6%) and shoulder mobility (87%) test scores significantly increased following the corrective exercise program. Although an increase in deep squat (8.3%), hurdle step (4.1%), in line lunge (18.1%), push-up (42.4 %), rotator stability balance (18.3%) tests were determined, they were statiscally insignificant. Conclusion: FMS TM total scores which are considered to be an indicator of sports injuries were improved with corrective exercises. Inclusion of corrective exercises in the training schedules may decrease the injury risks.
