Introdução: Desde o nascimento, a amamentação e a interação materno-infantil podem modular o estado comportamental da criança influenciando seu desenvolvimento psicológico de aprendizagem e, consequentemente, suas futuras escolhas alimentares. Objetivo Geral: compreender as causas que levam as crianças desenvolverem seletividade alimentar, fatores que contribuem para o mesmo e como podemos ajudar as crianças por meio de orientação e educação nutricional. Metodologia: Esta pesquisa será de revisão de literatura e foram realizada uma busca inicial nas bases de dados a partir de revistas e artigos científicos no Lilacs, Scielo e Pubmed, Google acadêmico, Scienc direct, Mediline e periódicos CAPES, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e livros. Resultados e Discussão: A educação nutricional é a conduta preventiva da seletividade alimentar da criança. Tem como objetivo desenvolver atitudes adequadas em relação aos alimentos, considerando para tantos aspectos cognitivos, emocionais e comportamentais. Conclusão: A partir do desenvolvimento desse estudo foi possível compreender que os hábitos alimentares de crianças seletivas são formados por uma alimentação sem graça, monótona, repetitiva e geralmente diferente da alimentação da família, são crianças que se alimentam somente em casa e quando sai para um determinado lugar tem que levar seu próprio alimento, pois acabam não aceitando outros tipos de alimentos que não estão acostumados.
