INTRODUCTION: Medicine and communicable disease control are embedded in many Islamic teachings as conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the Al-Quran, Al-sunnah, and Al-hadith more than 1400 years ago. Therefore, when the COVID-19 outbreak hits Malaysia, with the majority of the population being Muslims, the society should be equipped with knowledge in dealing with this pandemic. This study investigates the knowledge towards dealing with COVID-19 based on the guidance of Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) among undergraduate students in Malaysia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study using self-constructed questionnaires was performed. The questionnaires were pre-validated and distributed to pharmacy and health sciences students via an online survey platform. One of the selection criteria was that the respondent must be a Muslim. RESULTS: The students scored a median of 26 (IQR 4) in the knowledge test. Students’ percentage knowledge levels were divided into three categories: poor (n = 42, 15%); moderate (n = 207, 73%) and good (n = 33, 12%). The lowest scored knowledge item was observed on the Islamic terminology, Maqasid Shariah (4.3%), and differences between hadith and sunnah (20.9%). No significant differences in knowledge scores were observed in the pre-determined independent variables such as age, year of study, accommodation, and previous religious school admission. CONCLUSION: The study findings suggest that the students have a good understanding of scientific aspects of COVID-19 but lack knowledge in handling the pandemic as recommended by Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah.
Zakat is obligatory by Allah SWT for every Muslim who fulfills the conditions to release part of his wealth to be distributed to those who are entitled to receive it. There are various types of zakat in Islam and one of them is zakat in stock investments. Investment or participation in business through the purchase of company shares is a new form of asset ownership and therefore this method of ownership is not discussed in the classic references. Therefore, the discussion about the law of zakat on shares depends on how shares are understood from the point of view of fiqh. The shari'at of zakat is to purify the wealth of Muslims from elements that are doubtful when acquiring it. By giving zakat, it actually prevents the accumulation of wealth in the hands of certain groups or groups without giving it to those who need it. The obligation to pay zakat whether it is property zakat, business zakat, agricultural zakat, and other types of zakat is generally known by Muslims. Among the contemporary issues regarding zakat that often raise questions among the Muslim community today is the status of the obligation of zakat on shares. This study aims to examine zakat in investment as well as the importance of zakat because from this zakat, the expansion of property can be expanded taking into account that the investment property that is invested is not manipulated by scammers because the Maqasid Syariah in the category of Hifzul mal is guaranteed. The data obtained were systematically analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that zakat in share is done in accordance with the concept of zakat investment in Islam in terms of principles, objectives and benefits.
The management of zakat collection and distribution in Selangor is managed by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS: Selangor Zakat Board). The role of LZS in distributing zakat includes the managing of five main programs: economic, social, educational, human, and religious institution development programs. These five programs can give individual balance to the receivers of zakat from all angles, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual. But there are a few among the poor and needy who are troubled by values and attitudes. This concerns the issue of human development because the poor and needy feel comfortable with the attribute of being an 'asnaf' thereby preferring to rest at home and have fun with family, and thus forgetting their obligations to God. This study was conducted to find out the nature of the role of LZS on human development programs among the poor and needy to address the issue. This study adopts the qualitative research approach relying on a semi-structured interview with three informants from the staff of Lembaga Zakat Selangor, observation of the running of the program in six mosques, and an open-ended questionnaire distributed to 220 respondents from the poor and needy. The data collected were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study found that LZS places great emphasis on human development from the spiritual aspect of the poor and needy before the material aspect is developed. The spiritual aspect emphasized by LZS is by providing a Tahsinul Ibadah program or Islah program.
Under Malaysian National Land Code 1965 (NLC), co-proprietorship of land connotes that each of the co-proprietors shall be entitled to the possession and enjoyment of the land according to his share. Nevertheless, there is a common practice in Malaysia, that the land is partitioned into several parts based on informal agreement among co-proprietors so that every one of them can enjoy a designated part of the land exclusively. This practice seems to be not in line with the law and has caused some negative consequences especially in the case where the land is acquired by the government and the compensation is paid to all proprietors
