mieście rozpoczął się na początku lat czterdziestych XIX w. i wynikał głównie z uprzemysłowienia miasta. W 1852 r. w Bydgoszczy żyło 820 Żydów, natomiast do 1871 r. ich liczba wzrosła do 1963 osób. W 1871 r. stanowili ponad 7% społeczeństwa miasta, mieli swoich reprezentantów w radzie miejskiej i wywierali wpływ na rozwój gospodarczy ośrodka miejskiego 3. Rozwój społeczności żydowskiej zaznaczył się także w miasteczkach powiatu bydgoskiego: w Koronowie i Solcu. W pierwszym z nich w 1885 r. mieszkało 456 Żydów 4. To właśnie z Koronowa pochodzili przodkowie Alfreda Cohna; zarówno jego ojciec Rudolf Cohn, jak i matka Fanny, z domu również Cohn. Oboje należeli już do pokolenia urodzonego w Koronowie: ojciec urodził się w 1867 r., a matka w 1875 r. Dziadek Alfreda ze strony ojca, Eduard Cohn, miał w Koronowie sklep oferujący wyroby żelazne. Natomiast ojciec matki Alfreda, Alexander Cohn, był właścicielem dużego sklepu z wyrobami rękodzielniczymi i należał do osób znanych w Koronowie m. in. dlatego, że piastował urząd zastępcy burmistrza. W latach 1870-1914 pełnił funkcję radnego, a za swoje zasługi dla miasta otrzymał jego honorowe obywatelstwo. Alexander Cohn został odznaczony Orderem Korony IV klasy 5. Drugim obok zwiększania się liczebności zjawiskiem dominującym w tym okresie w życiu społeczności żydowskiej zaboru pruskiego był proces emancypacji prawnej. W pierwszej połowie XIX w. sytuacja prawna Żydów była skomplikowana i zróżnicowana w poszczególnych częściach dzielnicy pruskiej, w szczególności w Prusach Zachodnich. Była to konsekwencja włączania poszczególnych części prowincji do państwa pruskiego w różnym czasie. Żydzi uzyskali formalne równouprawnienie obywatelskie w Prusach na podstawie ustawy z 11 III 1812 r., która z oczywistych względów nie objęła ziem znajdujących się wówczas w granicach Wielkiego Księstwa Warszawskiego. Po kongresie wiedeńskim ograniczono zakres terytorialny oddziaływania ustawy z 1812 r. do obszaru Starych Prus 6 .
Celem artykułu jest ustalenie znaczenia Austrii w polityce bezpieczeństwa RP w latach 1918–1926. Przeprowadzona analiza stosunków dwustronnych ma wykazać, czy Polska traktowała Austrię jako potencjalnego sojusznika, czy jednak w większym stopniu jako zagrożenie. Groźba utraty niepodległości przez Austrię była uznawana przez władze polskie za czynnik zagrożenia systemu wersalskiego, którego nienaruszalność stanowiła kamień węgielny polityki bezpieczeństwa RP. Paradoksalnie to słabość Austrii decydowała o jej dużym znaczeniu w polityce bezpieczeństwa Polski.
