Abstract:The educational world has recently shown that there have been more and more educational observers and practisioners who care about education, particularly in trying to imporve the quality of education. Samarinda is among many other cities in Indonesia that has an ethnical variety. The number of ethnics found to have inhabited Samarinda are: Javanese, Banjarese, Buginese, Kutainese, Dayaks, Bataks, Ambonese, Manadonese, Chinese, Butonese, and Maduranese. The ethnical variety can inevitably trigger different problems confronted by the community, particularly the students' ethincial background at schools. Survey showed that the VIII grade SMP students' learning results in Samarinda was was still low, The learning strategy that can facilitate these multi-ethnical students will be very helpful in improving their learning results. The learning strategy that can be applied upon multi-ethnical students is the Snowballing cooperative learning strategy. This study aims to find out the influence of the Snowballing strategy upon critical thinking, cognitive learning results, and both of them play role in developing social attitude of multiethnic SMP students in Samarinda. Activites in the study consist of two stages: 1) survey research 2) the experiment-quasy research. Results of the Ancova tests indicated that there was a significant result of the Snowballing learning strategy upon the critical thinking, cognitive learning result and students. There was a significan influence of multi-ethnic condition upon critical thinking, cognitive learning result students. Javanese-ethnic students have the highest critical thinking ability and cognitie learning results compared to the their ethnic groups such as Banjarnese, Bugisnese, Kutainese and Dayaks. The SMP biology science teachers of Samarinda are suggested that they implement both snowballing cooperative strategies, as they have been proven to have been able to improve students' critical thinking ability and cognitive learning results.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatkan kemampuan kerjasama dalam belajar biologi melalui penerapan strategi inkuiri terbimbing pada siswa kelas VII semester ganjil SMP Negeri 6 Kota Samarinda Tahun Pelajaran 2010/ 2011. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus, dalam tiap siklus terdiri dari tiga kali pertemuan, dalam tiap pertemuan peneliti dan observer mengamati kemampuan kerjasama siswa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah keseluruhan siswa kelas VII-6 SMP Negeri 6 Samarinda yang berjumlah 44 orang dari populasi seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 6 Samarinda yang berjumlah 343 orang. Hasil penelitian menunujukkan bahwa siklus I dari tiga kali pertemuan diperoleh ratarata kemampuan kerjasama siswa sebesar 12,04%, siklus II dari tiga kali pertemuan diperoleh rata-rata kemampuan kerjasama siswa dalam belajar biologi sebesar 61,58% siswa yang mampu, dan pada siklus III dalam tiga kali pertemuan diperoleh rata-rata kemampuan kerjasama siswa sebesar 84,53% siswa yang mampu. Berdasarkan hasil anlisis data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan kemampuan kerjasama siswa dalam belajar biologi melalui penerapan strategi inkuiri terbimbing. Kata kunci: inkuiri terbimbing, kemampuan kerjasamaKerjasama adalah salah satu asas didaktik. Kini timbul pertanyaan apakah yang kita gunakan sebagai dasar kerjasama dalam kelas? Menjawab pertanyaan tersebut, Grambs berpendapat sebagai berikut dalam pengajaran disekolah yang demokratis, baik kerjasama maupun persaingan sama pentingnya. Hanya persaingan tidak berarti persaingan antar kelompok. Senada dengan hal tersebut Sriyono (1992) mengemukakan bahwa guru hendaknya menciptakan suasana kerjasama antar murid sehingga pelajaran yang diberikan itu lebih efektif dan efisien. Kerjasama yang dimaksud disini adalah untuk kebaikan, lainnya tidak. Grambs dalam Nasution (2000) Joyce dan Weil (1996) menyatakan tujuan kegiatan belajar di sekolah adalah membantu pelajar memperoleh informasi, ide, keterampilan, cara berpikir, nilai cara mendeskripsikan dirinya, dan cara belajar. Pembelajaran disekolah bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan siswa belajar lebih mudah dan efektif, sehingga diperoleh pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk mengkomunikasikannya. Salah satu hal yang menggambarkan siswa memperoleh keterampilan adalah kemampuan bekerjasama dalam belajar.Inkuiri terbimbing yaitu strategi inkuiri dimana guru membimbing siswa melakukan kegiatan dengan memberi pertanyaan awal dan mengarahkan pada suatu diskusi. Guru mempunyai peran aktif dalam menentukan permasalahan dan tahap-tahap pemecahannya. Strategi inkuiri terbimbing ini digunakan bagi siswa yang kurang berpengalaman belajar dengan strategi inkuiri. Dengan strategi ini siswa belajar lebih beorientasi pada bimbingan dan petunjuk dari guru hingga siswa dapat memahami konsep-konsep pelajaran. One of the factors lead to the low critical thingking skill is the implementation of teacher center learning. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the implementation of Problem-based Learning integrated with Cooperative Script to students’ critical thinking skills. This quasi-experimental research was done in senior high schools of Samarinda, Indonesia. The design used in this research was nonequivalent pretest - posttest control group design. The sample was the class XI students of natural science. The treatment was done in the odd semester in 2016/2017 academic year. The data analysis used was independent-samples t-test (α = 0.05). The results of the data analysis showed that the tvalue (16.57) > ttable (2.00). The mean value of students’ critical thinking skills in the experimental group was 77.28 which means 62% higher than those who were in the control group (47.60). Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of Problem-based Learning integrated with Cooperative Script gives the significant effect to the students' critical thinking skills.
Learning Media Development of Problem Based Instruction Method Toward Student Outcome and The Skill’s of Writing Scientific Report Teachers can develop learning tools according to their needs in Biology lessons. This study aims to determine the results of needs analysis, validation analysis, usefulness to improve the ability to write reports, analysis of the effectiveness of the development of the device. This research is a development research using quantitative and qualitative methods. Previously, researchers took data analysis of teacher needs, more than 60% still did not use the device to the fullest, 75% of teachers had not yet made an assessment rubric. The learning kit was declared valid with a presentation of 89.6%. And there is an increase in the learning outcomes of students in the control and experimental classes because t-count <-table = -20.96 <-1.67 at SMA Negeri 2 Samarinda. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Sebelumnya peneliti mengambil data analisis kebutuhan guru, lebih dari 60 % masih belum menggunakan perangkat secara maksimal, guru 75 % belum membuat rubrik penilaian. Perangkat pembelajaran dinyatakan valid dengan presentasi 89,6 %. Dan terdapat peningkatan hasil belajar siswa kelas kontrol dan eksperimen karena thitung <-ttabel = -20,96 <-1,67 di SMA Negeri 2 Samarinda. In empowering students’ 21st century skills, the implementation of scientific approach-based models (SAbM) is recommended. This quasi-experimental research was conducted in senior high school in which the students were comprised of different ethnics. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of SAbM on empowering students' critical thinking skills (CTS). The SAbM implemented were Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Guided Inquiry (GI), and PBL+GI combination. Furthermore, the students’ ethnics included were Javanese, Bugis, Kutai, Banjar, and Toraja. The purposive sampling was used to determine the classes employed (i.e. 11th classes from two senior high schools in Samarinda). The instrument used to collect CTS data was questions test. The data were analyzed using two-way ANCOVA. The results showed that there was no significant interaction between ethnic and learning models on the students' CTS (p = 0.219), as also shown by the main effect of ethnic types (p = 0.583). In contrast, there was a significant effect of SAbM on students’ CTS (p = 0.0005) Through this study, SAbM need to be implemented continuously as it can optimize the empowerment of students’ 21st Century skills.
