Reclamation is a recovery activity in mining areas, one of which is revegetation. The success of revegetation plants can be seen from the health of the composition and structure of the vegetation when the trees are six years old and over. This study aims to determine the health of the vegetation composition (location, type, and level of tree damage) in the reclamation area of PT Natarang Mining, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province. The location of this research is in the area around the main office of PT Natarang Mining, Way Linggo Forest, Bandar Negeri Semuong, Tanggamus Regency, covering an area of 2.97 Ha. The research was conducted through vegetation analysis using the circular plot method and assessing the health of the vegetation composition based on the damage index at the plot level. The results showed that tree vegetation obtained 12 species. The most common tree species found was Falcataria moluccana (Sengon) which amounted to 22 individuals. The most significant contribution of tree species indicated by the highest importance value index was Falcataria moluccana. The location of most damage found in most of the plots was at the bottom of the stem (code 3) and the bottom and top of the stem (code 4). Types of open wound damage (code 03) and gall rust (code 26) were the most dominant causes of damage, with an average damage rate of 35% and 22%, respectively. The health value of the vegetation composition has a value range of 1.20 – 2.00. The average health value of the vegetation composition is 1.50, which is included in the medium category.
One of the indicators in achieving the goal of sustainable forest management is maintaining forest health. Forest health can describe the good and bad conditions of forest management. Management is carried out based on the functions owned by the forest. With these different managements, there is a need to assess and map the current state of forest health across various parts. This study aimed to obtain values of forest health status in each plot for different forest functions and generate a cluster map of forest health status in other forest functions. This study was on three types of forest based on their functions: conservation forest, production forest, and protection in Lampung Province. The method used is the Forest Health Monitoring (FHM). Method to determine the health of forests using indicators of vitality, productivity, and biodiversity and using Web-GIS to create a map of the distribution of cluster plots. The sample plot used is in the form of cluster plots, with the number of each forest function is divided into 3 clusters whose status is categorized as good, moderate, and bad. Based on the research, it was found that the protected forest cluster 1 had bad health status, cluster 2 was good, and cluster 3 was moderate. The overall health condition of the production function is bad, and the forest health status of the conservation forest function is all good. The current distribution map of the forest's sanitary conditions for the three localities helps guide management decisions to be made soon. The conclusion obtained from this study is that existing forest functions influence forest health status because forest management is adjusted to forest functions so that each function has a different status of forest health conditions.
Currently, community plantation forests play an essential role in providing wood supply for the timber industry with due regard to sustainability. One way to achieve the sustainability aspects of forest management is by conducting monitoring forest health. This study aims to determine the value of the health status of the Panca Indah Lestari Community Plantation Forest. This community plantation forest is located in Bukit Layang Village, Bakam District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Province. The stages of this research include: determining the number of cluster-plots using sampling intensity based on the area of community plantation forest, making cluster plots based on Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) cluster-plot design, collecting data by measuring the ecological indicators of forest health (productivity and vitality) based on the FHM method, as well as data analysis and processing using the Forest Health Assessment Information System. The results showed that the health status of the Panca Indah Lestari Community Plantation Forest had a range of values ranging from 1,890 - 5,530. The average health status value of Panca Indah Lestari Community Plantation Forest is 4,210, which was included in the medium category. Thus, the value of the health status of community plantation forests illustrates that the conditions for productivity and vitality indicators are insufficient. Knowing the forest condition’s status value helps managers provide recommendations in making decisions on sustainable community plantation forest management.
