This study aimed to determine the composition of β-Caryophyllene (BCP) content in patchouli oil from various regions in Aceh. The data from GC-MS analysis can also describe the type of BCP isomer most commonly found in Aceh patchouli. This research used Aceh Pogostemon cablin Benth patchouli oil from 17 different locations. Samples were analyzed using TSQ™ 9000 Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS (Thermo Scientific) with TraceGOLD TG-1MS GC Columns. The mean BCP retention time was 14.64 minutes, with a standard deviation (SD) of 0.16. Only one type of BCP compound isomer appeared, namely Bicyclo [7.2.0] undec-4-ene, 4,11,11-trimethyl-8-methylene-, [1R- (1R*, 4Z, 9S*)]. The results also showed that the average BCP level was 5.51%. Aceh patchouli contains a much higher BCP level than the minimum commercial target (3.4-3.5%). The MS spectrum data also showed a high similarity between the patchouli oil sample fragmentation and the compound library.
This study evaluated antioxidant and cytotoxicity of methanol extract from flowers of Sphagneticola trilobata (L.) J.F. Pruski. Phytochemical Screening of the flowers exhibited the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, phenol, saponin, steroid and absent of tannin. The flowers extract also showed good source of antioxidant with an IC50 value of 19.072 μg/ml which was categorized in the range of strong antioxidant activity (<150 ppm). Cytotoxic activity of the flowers against HeLa cell line was found to 331.287 (LC50) or 83% inhibition. The results might suggest/support the flower of S,trilobata as source of natural antioxidant. However, further study about in vivo antioxidant and lethal dose of this sample are recommended.
Studies on the quality difference between oils in various provinces have been conducted with varied results, especially between Acehnese Patchouli and Javanese Patchouli. However, studies on quality differences of Acehnese Patchouli based on geographic differences have never been carried out, thus, still leaving a big mystery in determining whether geographical differences such as coordinates and height from sea level produce different quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of geographic location (coordinates and height of water MASL) of the patchouli cultivations on oil quality by conducting Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on the FTIR spectrum of patchouli oil from 3 different districts, namely South Aceh, Aceh Tamiang and South-West Aceh. The results indicate a water content difference as it is close to the O-H group wave number, which usually indicates the presence of Patchouli alcohol. The PCA analysis results show that there is a very significant difference between patchouli oil from South Aceh and Aceh Tamiang and South-West Aceh, caused by the height and patchouli variety difference. The PCA method validation is also quite reliable, which is proven by an explained variance plot.
The use of the notorious synthetic dye, rhodamine B, in food and beverage products has been widely reported. This application urges the need to develop an analytical method that can provide reliable rhodamine B data with an easy operational technique. Therefore, this research is aimed to develop an Arduino Uno-based TCS3200 color sensor and study its application to determine rhodamine B levels in syrup. The design of the analytical instrument included TCS3200, an Arduino Uno microcomputer, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) software, a black box container, and a 24 × 2 matrix display screen, where samples were prepared via absorption using wool thread. With a linear range of 1–20 mg/L, our proposed colorimetric sensor had recoveries of 96.25–110.3%, which was better compared to that was obtained from the UV-vis (81.8–100.6%) method. The detection and quantification limits of the sensor were 2.766 and 8.383 mg/L, respectively. The syrup samples used in this study were purchased from the local stores in Banda Aceh. Based on the proposed TCS3200 color sensor, the highest rhodamine B concentration from the syrup sample was 16.74 mg/L. The t-test analysis in this study revealed that the Rhodamine B levels quantified using the newly developed TCS3200 color sensor were not statistically or significantly different from the UV-Vis spectrophotometer method.
Pogostemon cablin Benth var Tapak Tuan, Aceh, Indonesia is a plant herb potentially to be developing with culture method. However, culture of this cultivar (stem and leave of bud0 explants sampled from outdoor trees is sometimes challenges due to contamination not overcome by standard surface-sterilization. An Improve method, involving a 5-minute immersion of explants in 5% (v/v) detergent, 1% fungicide and bactericide, 5% NaClO and 0.5% antibioticswhich does not interfere with normal explant and callus development, is described in detail.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
