Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar las estrategias de captación de recursos financieros del Observatorio Social de Sorriso (OSS-MT), de Mato Grosso, Brasil, durante el período de 2010 a 2015. Este estudio se caracteriza por un abordaje cualitativo, de carácter exploratorio y de estudio de caso. Para la recolección de datos se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, que contaban con un total de seis preguntas abiertas y cuatro cerradas. Estas entrevistas fueron practicadas a los tres gestores que estuvieron a cargo en el periodo de 2010 a 2015 y luego se empleó el análisis de contenido. Los resultados permiten identificar que la institución es poco conocida en virtud de la baja divulgación, lo que puede constituirse como obstáculo para la captación de recursos. Los resultados demuestran además que en los tres periodos de gestión se aplicaron, en general, las mismas estrategias de captación de recursos: visitas a las empresas para la divulgación del trabajo; transparencia financiera para la sociedad; relación con donantes potenciales y participación en eventos y conferencias, y únicamente uno de los gestores se preocupó en adherirse a una nueva estrategia para captar recursos a corto plazo —venta de sellos—, lo que indica la necesidad de profesionalización organizacional y el desarrollo de estrategias innovadoras para el logro de los objetivos y la viabilidad de los resultados.
