Based on data from an experience in a Pinus taeda plantation, including ages between 4 and 7 years old, multiple linear regressions were adjusted to obtain stand yield functions including regression variables associated with prunes intensity and opportunity, besides age, stand density and site index. The response variables analyzed were quadratic mean diameter, basal area and volume per hectare. The results show that it was possible to improve the prediction quality and accuracy of models of basal area when prune variables are considered, with respect to equations without these variables and with statistical significance. Improvements of 9.19% of the standard residual error and 8.99% of the statistics indicator employed to compare the prediction capacity were obtained. The utilization of some of those functions like sub-models inside equations of quadratic mean diameter and volume by hectare, simple and with good statistics, gives results that are sensitive to prune. These functions could be employed in spreadsheets to decide when and how many green branches to prune in relation to the production objective. The obtained models appear interesting for developing new local growth simulation programs of Pinus taeda that include prunes applied in intensive silvicultural systems of forest production.Key words: Pinus taeda, yield models, crown ratio, quadratic mean diameter, volume per hectare.
ABSTRACTIn an experiment with 3 stand densities and 12 prune treatments there were analyzed the effects of stand density, prune and interaction between them on the yield of a Pinus taeda L. plantation. The stand variables analyzed were diameter at breast height (DBH), stem volume, volume per hectare, height, basal area, diameter over stubs (DMSM), Girard form coefficient (CFG), diameter of branch (DRBC) and branche's angle (ARBC) at crown base. In the treatments with high density there were observed higher volume per hectare, basal area, CFG and lower DBH, stem volume, DMSM, DRBC and ARBC. In the treatments with lower prune height there were observed higher DBH, stem volume, volume per hectare, basal area than the treatments with larger prune height. Lower DMSM was observed with final prune height of 3,30 m and 4,40 m made at the age of 4 year. Higher DMSM were observed with final prune height of 5,5 and 6,6 m made at the age of 5 year. No statiscaly significant effects were found of the prune treatments over DRBC, ARBC and CFG or interaction between stand density and prune height. The density and prune yield effects were independent from each other.
Misiones, Argentina. The objective of this work was to study the behavior of Pinus taeda L. wood without and with impregnation with retentions of 5, 10 and 15 kg/m 3 of chromated copper arsenate, type C, preservative against Pycnoporus sanguineus, Laetiporus sulphureus, Plerotus sajor caju, Ganoderma applanatum, Glophyllum sp. in laboratory conditions. The wood was obtained from six trees chosen at random, and impregnated with C.C.A. in laboratory autoclave. To determine the efficiency of preservative 5 samples were used 5 samples of 3x 1 x 0,5 cm of no treated wood, were used. The wood samples were sterilized and put on a xylophagaus fungi staying in oven at 28°C for 12 weeks; after this period, the samples were taken away and put on a laboratory environment, until the moisture content of the beginning of the experiment was attained. The degradation was evaluated through the weight loss. The Pinus taeda L. wood was moderately resistant with retentions of 5 and 10 kg/m 3 of CCA, therefore retention of 5 kg/m 3 is enough.

STAND DENSITY AND PRUNE HEIGTH EFFECTS OVER FIVE YEAR OLD YIELD PLANTATION OF Pinus taeda L. Abstract The effects of the stand density and prune height, and the interaction between them, have been evaluated over the yield of five years old Pinus taeda plantation. There were three density levels and eleven prune heights. There were analyzed volume per hectare, basal area, tree volume, diameter at breast height (dbh) and height. It were found higher volume and basal area per hectare, and lower tree volume and dbh for the high density treatments. Except tree height, all the others variables showed lower average values with the increasing of the prune height. The interaction between stand density and prune height was not significant for all analyzed variables.
Abstract Basic density of wood of Pinus taeda L. Marion of different ages, Misiones, Argentina. The present work has as objective to determine the basic density of Pinus taeda L. origin Marion at different ages from the north of Misiones. In Misiones forest plantations cover 330000 ha. This species is one of the most cultivated since the decade of the 80. The basic density is one of the most useful indexes that characterize wood from the technological point of view, due to the high correlation that possesses in the production of pulps and also with the mechanical properties of the boards. The general average for the basic density for the 6 year of age was 0,349 gr/cm 3 ; for the 9 year of age was 0,356 gr/cm 3 and for the 16 year of age was 0,423 gr/cm 3 . In the three ages there is an increase of the density from the pith to the exterior and a decrease froom the base to the top. The density values at the 6 and 9 year of again is a wood that is in the limit of the classification of very light to light wood, and the 16 years of age it is a light wood.
