O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a qualidade dos lanches enviados nas lancheiras de pré-escolares de uma escola, considerando a classificação NOVA. Foi realizado estudo transversal desenvolvido com 200 crianças de 2 a 6 anos de uma escola particular. Foram observados e registrados três dias não consecutivos dos alimentos trazidos de casa pelos alunos e, posteriormente, os alimentos foram divididos em quatro grupos: alimentos In Natura (IN) ou Minimamente Processados (MP), Ingredientes Culinários (IC), Alimentos Processados (AP) e Alimentos Ultraprocessados (UP). Os dados foram analisados descritivamente e foram realizados testes de Qui-Quadrado de Pearson, teste de U de Mann-Whitney e teste de mediana. Observou-se que 100% das crianças levaram alimentos ultraprocessados em algum dia avaliado, sendo que em 85,5% a frequência foi nos três dias observados. Apenas 39% levaram alimentos in natura ou minimamente processados. A mediana de alimentos IN/MP foi de 13 g, enquanto a de alimentos UP foi de 200g. Em relação à quantidade de energia e nutrientes, em média, as lancheiras avaliadas apresentaram 341 Kcal (836 Kcal valor máximo) e 236 mg de sódio (máximo 683 mg). Os resultados mostram que a qualidade dos lanches contraria as recomendações da literatura, quando a presença de ultraprocessados nas lancheiras se mostra expressivamente maior do que a presença de alimentos in natura ou minimamente processados.
