Este artigo tem por objetivos identificar as principais bases teórico-epistemológicas dos estudos sobre sentidos e significados do trabalho na Psicologia e estabelecer possíveis aproximações com os paradigmas sociológicos de Burrel e Morgan (1979). Com base na literatura se verifica o predomínio do paradigma funcionalista, representado por autores como Hackman e Oldhan, MOW, Borges e Morin. Existem tam-bém vertentes teóricas que, em parte, estão relacionadas ao paradigma interpretativista (Morin, 2001; Dejours, 1987). A maioria das perspectivas baseia-se em pressupostos da Sociologia da Regulação. Entre-tanto, há abordagens mais críticas que enfatizam o papel da sociedade, condizentes com a Sociologia da Mudança Radical (Spink & Medrado, 2004; Vygotski, 2001). É possível perceber modificações no modo de compreender os sentidos e os significados do trabalho em cada momento histórico, expressas através da evolução das abordagens teórico-epistemológicas e nas mudanças dos paradigmas que orientam a soci-edade, o ethos predominante do trabalho e a constituição da subjetividade.
