Resumo: Este artigo pesquisa características dos parceiros íntimos que praticam violência doméstica contra a mulher. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo sobre o perfil socioeconômico de homens autores de VPI no ano de 2017, através de dados do Núcleo de Atendimento a Vítimas de Violências da cidade de Canoas. Iniciativas para reduzir a violência do parceiro requerem mudanças culturais, compromisso dos governos, conscientização da sociedade, e a identificação da ocorrência de VPI pelos órgãos responsáveis.

Leopardus colocolo, Leopardus geoffroyi, Leopardus tigrinus and Puma yagouaroundi are wild feline species endangered mainly due to habitat destruction and vehicle run overs. Seventeen felines hit on the roads were collected in Southern Brazil and examined for parasites. Cestodes were identified as Mesocestoides sp. The parasites were found in the small intestine of the hosts with a prevalence of 66.7% (L. colocolo and L. tigrinus), 60% (P. yagouaroundi) and 50% (L. geoffroyi). Rodents and lizards were found in the stomach contents and they possibly were intermediate hosts of Mesocestoides sp. This is the first report of Mesocestoides sp. in wild felines in Brazil.

Toxocara cati (Schrank, 1788) (Nematoda, Ascarididae) em diferentes espécies de felinos silvestres no Brasil: novos registros de hospedeiros. Esta é a primeira descrição detalhada de Toxocara cati parasitando felinos na América do Sul. Dezessete felinos silvestres (Leopardus colocolo, Leopardus geoffroyi, Leopardus tigrinus e Puma yagouaroundi) atropelados foram coletados em diferentes municípios do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. A morfometria de machos e fêmeas permitiu a identificação de espécimes como T. cati. Os helmintos foram encontrados no estômago e intestino dos hospedeiros com prevalência de 66,6% em L. colocolo, L. geoffroyi e L. tigrinus; e 60% em P. yagouaroundi. Foram calculados os parâmetros ecológicos para cada hospedeiro e, L. colocolo teve a maior intensidade de infecção (22,5 helmintos/hospedeiro). Este é o primeiro registro de T. cati parasitando quatro espécies de felinos silvestres no Sul do Brasil e, dois novos registros de hospedeiros para esse parasito.

Diplotriaena delirae Pinto & Noronha, 1970 is known to parasitize Pitangus sulphuratus (Linnaeus, 1766) in Peru and in the Midwestern and Southeastern regions of Brazil. Here, specimens of P. sulphuratus were collected in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and necropsied. Nematodes (n = 6) found in these specimens were identified as D. delirae based on their morphological traits. This is the first report of D. delirae from southern Brazil, expanding the knowledge of the helminth fauna of P. sulphuratus in the Neotropical region.

Objetivo: Descrever o perfil epidemiológico dos acometidos por hanseníase na Região Nordeste do Brasil. Método: Estudo ecológico, descritivo, retrospectivo, construído a partir da análise de dados secundários sobre a hanseníase registrados na Região Nordeste, no período de 2013 a 2017. Os dados foram obtidos do Sistema Informatizado de Dados das Notificações de Hanseníase (DATASUS) e do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN). A partir dos dados, foi calculada a frequência absoluta, a taxa de incidência, a prevalência e a taxa de incremento anual (TIA) (p ≤ 0,05). Resultados: Foram diagnosticados 180.019 casos novos de hanseníase no Brasil, e a Região Nordeste apresentou 77.669 novos casos, representando 43,13% do total. Em relação ao perfil dos indivíduos acometidos, a maioria é do sexo masculino e com faixa etária entre 30 e 49 anos. A forma virchowiana foi a prevalente no Maranhão (55,8%); e a dimorfa, na Bahia (34,7%) e em Pernambuco (34,3%). Analisando a TIA, nos estados da Região Nordeste, observa-se estabilidade das taxas de prevalência em Pernambuco e na Bahia e declínio no Maranhão. Conclusão: Os três estados analisados não atingiram as metas para redução de detecção de novos casos nem redução nos casos de Grau II. As variáveis sociodemográficas dos portadores apontam a manutenção de desigualdades socioeconômicas que impactam na qualidade de vida dos portadores. Essa investigação poderá contribuir com o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas para a promoção da saúde da população afetada. Salienta-se a importância de outros estudos que aprofundem a investigação no Maranhão, que se mantém com números elevados da doença.

This is the first report of a species of Echinuria Soloviev, 1912, on anatid hosts in South America, causing granulomas. It is also the first detailed description and record of a species of Echinuria, for South America in the Rosy-billed Pochard, Netta peposaca (Vieillot, 1816). Fifty-two rosy-billed pochards were examined for helminths in the Municipalities of Santa Vitória do Palmar (locality of Fazenda Sossego) and (locality of Ponta da Antena), State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and Alvear, Province of Corrientes, northern Argentina. Samples were obtained from 2003 to 2004. After the catch each bird was immediately frozen with dry ice. Prior to necropsy birds were sexed, weighted, measured, and the state of maturity (juvenile or adult) determined, based on the presence or absence of a bursa of Fabricius. The granulomas with the nematodes were found in the proximal esophagus at the junction with the proventriculus. Two birds had one (fistulated) and two granulomas, respectively. One of the birds was from the wintering grounds along the coastal region in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The other, from one of the breeding grounds in northern Argentina, was captured before the trip to the wintering grounds along the migratory flyway. Prevalence was 3.8% while the mean intensity of infection was 7.2. Morphometry of males and females and the comparison with previous descriptions and illustrations allowed the identification of the present specimens as E. uncinata.

Guerrerostrongylus zetta had been found in a number of different species of rodents from northern and southeastern Brazil as well as Argentina. Between 2008 and 2010, specimens of Oligoryzomys nigripes (n = 14) were collected and necropsied. The nematodes encountered were identified as G. zetta due their morphological traits. Prevalence was 78%, with a mean intensity of infection of 5.63 helminths/host. This report fills in a lacuna in the known distribution of G. zetta, and provides the first record of this parasite in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
