Esta é uma análise da produção literária do escritor mexicano Carlos Juan Nepomuceno Pérez Rulfo Vizcaíno (1917-1986). Buscou-se aprofundar os sentidos de seus enredos trágicos, ambientados e referenciados à desigualdade social e à ruralidade mexicana de meados do século XX. O objeto de discussão se circunscreve às obras literárias Chão em Chamas (1953) e Pedro Páramo (1955). Estes textos, notoriamente complexos e enigmáticos, se relacionam entre a realidade social mexicana do início do século XX e o imaginário social, permeado pelo misticismo e pelo fantástico. A literatura rulfiana, portanto, assumiu a tessitura de um discurso que oscila entre o real e o imaginário e que dá sentido às experiências históricas. Nesse viés, um dos elementos fundamentais da produção literária de Rulfo é a presença da tragédia. Ela apresenta, sobretudo, elementos de uma ruralidade permeada pela escassez, pela exploração e pela pobreza. Sua obra representa, de modo original, uma contribuição ao pensamento decolonial, pois apresenta uma manifestação literária que advoga e dialoga com sua realidade de forma propositadamente pragmática. Sua tragicidade rural é, além de denúncia, um forçoso choque de realidade.

A proposta deste estudo insere-se no debate sobre a interdisciplinaridade na pesquisa e na pós-graduação, ao definir como objetivo a análise de abordagens e interpretações sobre “desenvolvimento” e “mundo rural” como conceitos e como prática nas Ciências Sociais, a partir de um estudo de caso. Para tanto, os autores tomarão como base a produção científica interdisciplinar – teses e dissertações, do Programa de Pós-Graduação de Ciências Sociais em Desenvolvimento, Agricultura e Sociedade da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro – CPDA/UFRRJ, voltada para as questões do mundo rural brasileiro. A análise da construção do campo das Ciências Sociais no Brasil é significativa para o entendimento das escolhas e posturas teórico-metodológicas interdisciplinares de muitos programas de pós-graduação, para a elucidação de suas pesquisas e para formulações e interpretações de processos sociais. Como resultado, dentro de um amplo universo de trabalhos acadêmicos, são apresentados exemplos de estudos reconhecidos como interdisciplinares em suas abordagens sobre desenvolvimento e mundo rural.
