Generally, the mineral potency have been explored and sometime exploited, however the most common problem in this system is how to transport of those reserves. The limitation of onland facilities and infrastructures due to swampy area caused the river transportation is the cheapest, affective and efficient choosen alternative. However, the most common constraints on river transportation systems are silting in the inlet and estuarine. Therefore the dredging is obviously important for deepening of the access channel. The aim of this study is to reveal morphological changes due to sediment transport that is causing silting and narrowing the area around the Barito estuarine. The numerical model using Delft3D is conducted to analyse the morphodynamic changing.Based on the Delft3D model simulation results, the highest sediment deposition occurs at a location near the Barito river estuary, where the sedimentation rate is up to 1.2 meter per year. In the southern part of the navigation canal, the canal width is reduced up to 300-400 meter per year. These indicate that the morphological process at this location highly influenced by the river discharge. A total of 20 marine sediment samples from Cenderawasih Bay waters have been used for foraminiferal study, . The purpose to describe the spatial distribution and structure of the foraminifera community in the waters of Cenderawasih Bay. The results indicate that marine sediments are composed of 7 genera and 13 species of planktonic foraminifera, and 57 genera and 87 species belong to benthic foraminifera. The most common planktonic foraminifera is Globigerinoides which is found in all location, particularly G. trilobus and G. ruber. Furthermore, benthonic foraminifera is dominated by subordo Rotaliina, particularly genera Cibicidoides and Lenticulina as the most common genera. Diversity of both Planktonic and benthonic foraminifera are categorized as high, the values are between 0.82 and 0.90, and between 0.79 and 0.95 respectively. Planktonic and benthonic foraminiferal evenness are also high with range value between 0.83 and 0.99 (planktonic), and between 0.82 and 0.99 (benthonic). In contrast, dominance of both foraminiferal type are low, between 0.10 and 0.18 for planktonic, and between 0.05 and 0.21 (benthonic). This indicates that despite a semi–enclosed bay, Cendrawasih Bay is still considered as a good environment for foraminiferal community. Keywords: foraminifera, spatial distribution, community structure, and Cenderawasih Bay.
This study used three core sediment samples from off Siberut, South Pagai and Enggano islands, Bengkulu waters, Westcoast of Sumatera. The samples were then used to determine biostratigraphic zonation based on planktonic foraminifera. A total of 23 subsample sediments from these three sites within 1.5 m intervals and at layers that showing colour and sediment type changes. Foraminiferal analysis has been carried out qualitatively and based on the initial appearance of the index species in order to determine biostratigraphic zonation. There are 46 identified species of planktonic foraminifera that were found very abundantly. It was also appeared Bolliella adamsi, as an index species for the boundary between Late Pleistocene and Holocene. This boundary was found at different depths between 700 and 950 cm below sea level. Based on the discovery of the index species, finally there are two subzonations of planktonic foraminifera; Globigerinella calida and Bolliella adamsi subzonations. Keywords: planktonic foraminifera, index species, age, Globigerinella calida and Bolliella adamsi subzonations, westcoast Sumatera
