This article approaches the implementation of the first Brazilian governmental Social Housing Program in the rural zone of municipalities in Southern Brazil, accomplished with federal resources by means of Caixa Econômica Federal. It discusses the recent National Housing Policy, with the main alterations occurred on the system structure. Following, reports the searching of resources by small farmers of Rio Grande do Sul, joint the official institutions aiming the housing construction in rural areas, since then, the credits were exclusively destined to buildings for agriculture and cattle raising in rural property. From the mobilization of the farmers, the resources were made available by the Federal Government to the achievement of this Pilot Project, in municipal districts of Northern area of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. It was the initial mark of housing credit offering for investments in rural area, which now extends to the whole country, with resources target for the investment in social housing both for the urban zone as rural zone of all municipalities. The information of this article result from empiric data collected in documental sources, in direct consultation to the involved entities in the project; in website researches and recorded interviews with small farmers benefited on this intervention.
