Trends of extreme climatic indices for Manaus -AM region abstRaCtTrends in the extreme climate indices based on precipitation data at three stations in and around the city of Manaus for the period 1971-2007 are studied. Based on the results obtained it can be observed that there was an increase of the annual total precipitation in the area studied. At the station located in the city of Manaus (INMET), the frequency of precipitation events with 50 mm (R50mm) or more, the amount precipitation in five consecutive days (Rx5day) and the number of wet days (R95p), showed an increase, with statistical significance, indicating that Manaus may suffer with the increase of the extreme rainfall events. An increase in the positive SST anomalies in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean induce an increase of the consecutive dry days and decrease of the extreme rainfall events and, consequently, in the total precipitation in the Amazon basin. The positive SST anomalies in the South Atlantic Ocean induce the displacement of ITCZ to the south of Equator causing an increase of the precipitation in the Manaus region. The results obtained here have potential for possible prediction of precipitation characteristics at Manaus.

Detection of climatic extremes and their relationship with ocean indices for four meteorological stations in the state of Mato Grosso A B S T R A C TThe objective of this research was to calculate and verify the trend of the detection indexes of climatic changes dependent on the rainfall and daily temperature defined by the WMO for the meteorological stations of the state of Mato Grosso and to analyze their relationship with the SST anomalies of the Pacific and Pacific oceans. Atlantic. Four seasons were studied: Cáceres, Cuiabá, Gleba Celeste and Pe. Ricardo Remetter. The results show an increase in the intensity of the rain for Cáceres and Cuiabá, and in the capital a tendency of increase in precipitation of 45 mm / decade was detected, the increase in the amount of rain may cause inconvenience to the population due to urban paving. The rates of climatic extremes had little relation to the regions of the Pacific Ocean, however the anomalies of the Atlantic Ocean showed greater cause-effect mainly with the temperature indices. Despite the apparent weak relationship between the oceanic indexes and the indexes of climatic extremes detected in these locations, it is necessary to be aware of the oceanic influences for the North and Northeast regions of Brazil since the Amazon is the main source of moisture for the Midwest due to SACZ and Ec (Equatorial continental air mass). Furthermore, factors at the local and micrometeorological level must be studied to understand the increase in the maximum temperature identified in the four seasons, the increase in consecutive dry days for Cáceres and the increase in precipitation for Cuiabá since there was a weak relationship with the oceans, thus showing that factors at the regional and even local level are summarily contributing to these changes more than the events of synoptic scale.
