Estudos empíricos têm indicado baixo grau de utilização de artefatos modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial propostos pela literatura. No âmbito teórico, a teoria da contabilidade engloba o pressuposto de que a contabilidade deveria atender eficazmente os seus usuários externos e internos. Este estudo tem dois objetivos principais: avaliar se (a) empresas brasileiras que se destacam pelo seu porte na economia brasileira utilizam artefatos modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial e (b) empresas que se destacam pela qualidade de suas informações aos usuários externos, também, se destacam pela maior utilização de artefatos modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial de apoio a usuários internos. Uma amostra de 90 empresas foi examinada, selecionadas dentre empresas listadas entre as 500 maiores empresas (edição de 2005 de Melhores e Maiores) e dentre o rol de empresas que foram indicadas ao Prêmio ANEFAC-FIPECAFI-SERASA, Troféu Transparência, entre os anos-base de 1996 a2004. Dados foram coletados por meio de questionário endereçado ao gestor da área de Contabilidade Gerencial, contendo questões relativas ao grau de utilização de artefatos tradicionais e modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial. Os resultados do estudo demonstram que (a) as empresas da amostra utilizam artefatos modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial e (b) a amostra de empresas indicadas para o prêmio não se diferencia, em termos de utilização de artefatos modernos de Contabilidade Gerencial, do grupo das demais empresas pesquisadas.
Verifica-se que, na verdade, a discussão era, implicitamente, entre a apuração de custo ou a de resultado. As empresas sempre acreditaram no resultado como um indicador do grau de eficácia, faltando, no entanto, a definição correta do seu conteúdo.Como é demonstrada na figura 1, a apuração de resultado (custos e receitas) decorre da necessidade de refletir economicamente o que ocorre no ambiente operacional. Assim, mensurar somente a "perna" dos custos, sem a preocupação com os benefícios (produtos/serviços), distorce as avaliações de resultado e de desempenho, tornando as incorretas e injustas. Particularmente. acredita-se que o resultado que todos buscam é o resultado econômico, pois é o único que reflete todos os fatores críticos para o sucesso, sendo, então, o melhor de todos os indicadores.Portanto, verifica-se que a discussão de custo ou resultado já está superada. Outrossim, entendese o mesmo para a discussão sobre método de custeio. não havendo dúvida quanto a validade da utilização/aplicação do custeio direto num sistema de informação voltado para a gestão, permitindo, assim, a controlabilidade de custos e receitas.Por fim, resta analisar o modelo de mensuração e o modelo de identificação e acumulação de resultado. Quanto ao primeiro modelo, ele tem sido tratado exaustivamente nos últimos anos. Os estudos iniciais sobre moeda constante, valor presente. custo de oportunidade, etc. data de algumas décadas passadas. Apesar disso, a aplicação desses conceitos, de maneira coerente e consistente, num mesmo sistema é recente.Quanto ao modelo de identificação e acumulação de resultado, ele é um assunto inédito em termos acadêmicos. O presente artigo aborda este tema, dentro do contexto de um sistema de apuração de resultado. Como será demonstrado. a definição do modelo permite ao referido sistema refletir as ocorrências físico-operacionais da empresa, apoiando a apuração do resultado econômico e, conseqüentemente, do valor patrimonial da empresa.
