La presente comunicación tiene como motivación dar a conocer las implicancias benéficas de un adecuado diagnostico imagenológico odontológico usando radiografías panorámicas, que contribuye desde la prevención de patologías orales hasta de accidentes cerebrovasculares (ACV), a partir de una atención odontológica rutinaria. Al odontólogo u estomatólogo la radiografía panorámica según Rushton (1) le permite “ejecutar estudios epidemiológicos radiográficos para determinar la prevalencia de anomalías dentarias, óseas u otros tipos de patologías maxilofaciales en niños, adultos y ancianos”, lo cual es valioso para conocer las condiciones bucales de diversas poblaciones, permitiendo estudiar, diagnosticar y tratar precoz y adecuadamente algunas patologías bucomaxilofaciales, evitando que lleguen a cirugías más complicadas y secuelas mayores. El uso habitual de la radiografía panorámica permite descubrir alteraciones y patologías dentales inadvertidas o asintomáticas en pacientes que acuden rutinariamente a una atención odontológica, permitiendo al profesional clínico la observación de estructuras anatómicas anormales o patológicas que no son posibles detectarlos clínicamente a simple vista. Esto mejora el diagnóstico y plan de tratamiento, favorece el diagnóstico y tratamiento preventivo de algunas patologías bucomaxilofaciales y evita cirugías de mayor riesgo y gravedad, así como secuelas y complicaciones irreversibles.
Objetivo: Conocer las características del telediagnóstico de enfermedades bucodentales (EBD) de urgencias y la satisfacción del usuario, en situación de confinamiento por pandemia de la COVID-19. Materiales y métodos: Se realizaron 320 telediagnósticos de EBD, empleándose estrategias sincrónicas, a través de medios de comunicación virtual; el paciente realizó la consulta al profesional mediante una llamada telefónica; se recogió signos y síntomas y solicitó fotos de la zona problema. Durante la teleconsulta, mediante una historia clínica odontológica, se determinó el diagnóstico presuntivo y se realizó el manejo sintomático de casos. Adicionalmente se aplicó una encuesta de satisfacción con una escala tipo Likert. Resultados: De los pacientes atendidos, el 75% presentó gravedad de urgencia leve; en el 83.8% de casos la consulta fue de 16 a 30 minutos; 40% presentó alteraciones de esmalte, 32.5% pulpitis, 13.1% gingivitis. El 50,6%, se mostró satisfecho con la atención recibida, mediante la teleconsulta. Conclusiones: Durante el confinamiento por la COVID-19, se presentaron con mayor frecuencia enfermedades bucodentales como alteraciones del esmalte y pulpitis. El nivel de satisfacción del usuario con la teleconsulta, fue satisfactorio.
Objetivo: Estimar la prevalencia y el nivel de riesgo de adición a teléfonos inteligentes en una muestra de adolescentes. Métodos: Estudio de tipo observacional, prospectivo y transversal, realizado en la ciudad de Ica, Perú. Participaron 120 adolescentes mujeres de 13 a 17 años de una Institución Educativa pública. Se recolectaron características generales y se administró la Escala de adicción a teléfonos inteligentes de 10 preguntas. Se describieron las variables del estudio y se aplicó Chi-cuadrado para evaluar diferencias. Resultados: De las participantes el 13,9% tienen adicción a los teléfonos celulares inteligentes y el 54,1% se encuentran en riesgo alto de dependencia. Presentan mayor riesgo de adicción a estos dispositivos, quienes tuvieron COVID-19, no tuvieron familiar fallecido por COVID-19, ni miedo a la COVID-19, tienen conflictos familiares en el hogar, sentimiento de tristeza, ansiedad o depresión, sentimientos de vergüenza, ha sufrido alguna vez de bullying, no se siente rechazada por la sociedad, no prefiere estar en aislamiento obligatorio por la pandemia por COVID-19, no prefiere las clases virtuales y de 16 a 17 años; sin embargo, las diferencias no resultaron significativas. Conclusiones: La prevalencia y el riesgo de adicción a los teléfonos móviles inteligentes es alta; existen variables generales potencialmente modificables que podrían disminuir el riesgo de dependencia al Smartphone.
La valoración sobre el manuscrito científico resulta un proceso complejo, pues depende del tipo de propuesta y la cultura metodológica que posea el evaluador para comprender las instrucciones de revisión. El objetivo del estudio fue comparar las diferencias y semejanzas metodológicas en el sistema evaluativo de tres revistas latinoamericanas indexadas. Se seleccionaron las revistas: Acta Biológica Colombiana: -ABC (Colombia), Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental: -RICA (México) y The Biologist: -TB (Perú). Fueron contabilizados los aspectos de evaluación para los autores siendo un total de 11 (ABC), 6 (RICA) y 11 (TB). Las principales diferencias radicaron en criterios de orden metodológico debido a, informaciones generales relacionadas con el tema investigación y específicas de desarrollo estructurales, señalamiento sobre el lenguaje científico, además, de sugerencias o no, a los autores. Se observaron dos semejanzas cardinales que destacaron en la cualificación sobre la interrogante a medirse y falta de indicación directa por parte del evaluador hacia los autores. Aunque las revistas presentaron formatos de evaluación, cumplir con sus requisitos solo resulta de la formación metodológica y técnica por parte del experto–evaluador. Se concluyó que, no existió una estandarización en los criterios metodológicos del sistema de evaluación sobre los manuscritos en las tres revistas indexadas latinoamericanas.
