Partindo do pressuposto de que o consumo é o meio a partir do qual as práticas espaciais podem ser apreendidas na atualidade, a perspectiva da análise adotada nesse artigo é a da “Geografia da vida cotidiana”, que valoriza o papel de cada citadino como sujeito no processo de produção do espaço urbano, o que nos levou a realização de um conjunto de 89 entrevistas com moradores de seis cidades médias brasileiras (Marília, Presidente Prudente, Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos e São José do Rio Preto - SP, e Londrina – PR). Com base na sua análise, as lutas travadas no campo do consumo e o papel fundamental dos espaços foram evidenciados, observando-se que a casa, seus equipamentos e o veículo individual estruturam um permanente e renovável sistema de objetos, que assumiu autonomia e atua na reprodução das desigualdades sociais. Como conclusão principal, constata-se que a ampliação do acesso ao mercado imobiliário, de eletrodomésticos e de veículos, ocorrido no Brasil desde os anos 1990, mas principalmente nos anos 2000, possibilitou a difusão da representação da classe trabalhadora, como consumidora e produtora de vida urbana, ao mesmo tempo em que a normalização do consumo, as práticas individuais de lazer e a localização periférica das residências favoreceram o controle social, especialmente nessas cidades médias nas quais espaços públicos, sindicatos, manifestações políticas e mesmo “o botequim da esquina” exercem cada vez menos atração.
R E S U M O :Este trabalho dedica-se ao estudo das décadas de 1980 e 1990 no Brasil, a partir da transição política, mas procurando abordar também seus desdobramentos que se materializaram, em grande parte, nos anos 1990. A abordagem baseia-se no estabelecimento de relações entre as mudanças políticas, em suas possibilidades e seus limites, e no cotidiano de instituições penitenciárias do Estado de São Paulo inicialmente, e posteriormente em uma região específica, o Oeste Paulista. Chegou-se assim à identificação das diferentes temporalidades próprias de cada uma delas, por vezes materializadas em fissuras no processo de democratização que envolvia o debate acerca dos direitos humanos, além da identificação das relações de poder comuns e específicas. Este trabalho dedica-se ao estudo das décadas de 1980 e 1990, a partir da transição política que caracterizou o fim do regime militar no Brasil, mas procurando abordar também seus desdobramentos que, de acordo com a hipótese de trabalho adotada, se materializaram, em grande parte, nos anos 1990.Diante de tal desafio, a perspectiva adotada foi interdisciplinar, sob uma temática específica entendida como estratégica neste contexto polí-tico, que é a questão da atuação das chamadas instituições de controle social, particularmente o caso das penitenciárias do Estado de São Paulo. Desse modo, a participação num grupo de pesquisa composto por geógrafos, economistas e historiadores (GAsPERR -Grupo de Pesquisa e Produção do Espaço e Redefinições Regionais) que, além de explorar a bibliografia produzida por outros cientistas sociais adotou um recorte regional (Oeste do Estado de São Paulo), permitindo trazer para o campo da História suas contribuições e, a partir deste campo, produzir novos e relevantes conhecimentos sobre essa temática.
Neste artigo são discutidas as novas relações entre espaços públicos e espaços privados estabelecidas a partir da revisão do Plano Diretor de Chapecó, em 2006, e seus impactos. Se verificaram uma série de ações e leis tendentes a afastar os jovens, principalmente os das periferias, do centro de Chapecó, além de normas e programas da prefeitura que promovem e regulamentam a expansão dos interesses comerciais e empresariais sobre a gestão do espaço público. Mas também se observou os limites desses programas e as novas práticas espaciais dos jovens no centro, evidenciando mudanças nas relações entre público e privado. Se conclui que tendências como a privatização estão presentes, dentre outras que configuram o processo de fragmentação socioespacial, mas há disputa.
O presente artigo busca analisar a produção e a apropriação de espaços públicos a partir das práticas espaciais de jovens associados ao hip-hop, na cidade de Ribeirão Preto, SP. No contexto de aumento das desigualdades e da diferenciação socioespacial, que implicam novas segmentações e o crescimento das fronteiras materiais e simbólicas no espaço urbano, o uso combinado de espaços públicos centrais e periféricos associado às redes sociais virtuais, relativos às práticas espaciais dos coletivos hip-hop, aparecem como resposta à fragmentação socioespacial no sentido do restabelecimento do direito à cidade. A produção de novas centralidades e a reapropriação da cidade pelo hip-hop indica a formação de microordens no espaço urbano que atribuem novos significados e disputas acerca da relação centro-periférica e ao processo de fragmentação socioespacial em curso nas cidades.
O consumo mudou de intensidade, conteúdo e status, conformando o mundo e se associando aos processos de diferenciação. Partindo deste pressuposto, mas sem desconsiderar problemas decorrentes, como a alienação, sobre a produção do espaço urbano, entendemos que os shopping centers são espaços estratégicos para o entendimento desses processos nas cidades médias brasileiras. A perspectiva de análise é a do cotidiano, com atenção às práticas espaciais dos diferentes frequentadores, em sua relação com a atuação dos agentes produtores dos shopping centers, o que implica levar em conta as dimensões simbólicas, tanto do consumo (conduta ativa e coletiva, sistema de valores, função de integração e de controle social), quanto destes espaços, supostamente convertidos em espaços públicos contemporâneos, o que se relaciona diretamente com a sua capacidade de exercer um férreo controle interno, sem deixar de proporcionar sensação de liberdade e assim, também, aos limites dessas simulações.
