Günümüzde teknolojinin sunduğu imkânlar çerçevesinde esnek çalışma modelleri geleneksel istihdam biçimlerinin yerini almakta ve ev ortamında çalışmaya olanak veren home-office istihdam biçimi yaygınlaşmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, varsayılan kamusal ve özel alan ikiliğinin aksine, erkeklerin ücretli emeğini mekânsal olarak evde gerçekleştiriyor olmalarının, erkeklik inşalarında bir değişim yaratıp yaratmadığı sorgulanmıştır. Bu kapsamda, derinlemesine görüşme tekniği ile gerçekleştirilen araştırmada home-office çalışan erkek katılımcılara açık uçlu sorular yöneltilerek bu olası değişimin izi sürülmüştür. Erkeklerin çalışmayı nasıl anlamlandırdıkları, evdeki iş bölümü ve babalığa olan yaklaşımları ile cinsiyet eşitliğine dair görüşleri analiz edilmiştir. Covid-19 salgını nedeniyle home-office çalışan kişi sayısının oldukça arttığı bu dönemde salgın öncesi yapılmış bu araştırmanın, gelecek araştırmalar için ufuk açıcı olması beklenmektedir.
Kişilerarası fiziki mesafenin korunması temeline dayanan COVID-19 tedbir ve kısıtlamaları toplumla ilişkili her alanı etkileyip dönüştürürken, onu çeşitli şekillerde ve farklı boyutlarıyla inceleyen sosyolojik araştırmaya dair pek çok soruyu da gündeme getirmiştir. Bu çalışma da pandemi koşullarında nitel araştırmaların nasıl yürütülebileceği sorusundan yola çıkarak; nitel tekniklerin çevrimiçi platformlar aracılığıyla uygulanabilirliğini tartışmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda öncelikle nitel araştırmaya dair birikim ile pandemi koşullarında nitel araştırma tekniklerini kullanan araştırmacıların deneyim ve önerileri incelenmiş, ardından bütünüyle çevrimiçi platformlar üzerinden gerçekleştirilen fenomenolojik araştırma, hem tasarım hem uygulama süreçleri açısından ilgili yazınla bir arada tartışılmıştır. Pandemi sürecinin, nitel tekniklerle yürütülen araştırmalarda zaman ve mekân esnekliğine bağlı olarak veriye giden yolu kısaltması; diğer yandan araştırmacı ve katılımcı arasında oluşturduğu mekânsal ayrım sebebiyle veriyi elde edebilmeyi zorlaştırması, imkânlar ve sınırlılıklar kapsamında bu çalışmanın temel tartışma maddeleridir. Neticede pandemi koşulları ortadan kalktığında dahi çevrimiçi araştırmanın, iyi bir alternatif olmanın ötesinde, araştırma sorusuna ve sahasına da yeni bir boyut getirebilecek olanakları barındırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
Her canlının yaşam döngüsünün son durağı olan ölüm, biyolojik olduğu kadar toplumsal, kültürel ve tarihsel bir olgudur. Ölüm olgusuna yüklenen anlamların zaman içerisinde ve toplumdan topluma farklılık göstermesi onu sosyoloji disiplininin araştırma nesnesi haline getirir. Ne var ki Türkiye'de ölüm sosyolojisi henüz fazla dokunulmamış bir alan olup, ölüm üzerine yapılan sosyolojik çalışmalar sayıca azdır. Bu makale ölümün geleneksel ve modern toplumlarda nasıl inşa edildiğini ve bu bağlamda iyi bir ölümün toplumsal olarak nasıl anlamlandırıldığını inceleyerek, alan yazına katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir. Bu amaçla önce, sosyolojideki üç temel yaklaşım olan yapısalcı, yorumsamacı ve çatışmacı yaklaşımlar ile feminist ve post-modern yaklaşımların ölümü nasıl ele aldıkları ve ölümün hangi sosyolojik özelliklerine vurgu yaptıkları ortaya konmuştur. İkinci olarak, modern toplumlarda ölümün geleneksel toplumlardan nasıl farklılaştığı; geleneksel toplumlarda yaşamın olağan bir parçası olarak görülen ölümün, modern toplumlarda akılcılaşma, kurumsallaşma ve tıbbileşme ile nasıl yaşamdan dışlanmış olduğu ve ötekileştiği tartışılmıştır. Hastanın ve hastalığın kurumsallaşmasının ve tıbbın egemenliğine girmesinin, ölümün de kurumsallaşmasına ve toplumdan soyutlanıp uzaklaştırılmasına sebep olduğuna dair tartışma da bu çerçevede sunulmuştur. Son olarak gelenekselden modern topluma geçerken anlamı değişen ölüm olgusunun ve iyi bir ölümün ne olduğuna dair anlamlarda yarattığı değişimin üzerinde durulmuştur. Buna göre geleneksel toplumlarda ahlaki değerlerle tanımlanan iyi ölümün modern toplumlarda, acısız ve ağrısız, bilinçli, ölmekte olan kişinin sevdikleri çevresindeyken gerçekleşen bir ölüm olarak tanımlandığı görülmüştür.
İçinde bulunduğumuz yüzyıla damga vuran teknolojik ilerlemeler, gerek eğitim gerekse çalışma hayatında önemli dönüşümlere sebep olmuştur. Çağın gerektirdiği bu yeni teknolojileri kapsayan bilim, teknoloji, mühendislik, matematik (STEM) alanları, yüzyılın ihtiyaçlarını karşılamaya imkân sunmaktadır. Ancak, yaşamın toplumsal, kültürel, ekonomik ve siyasi birçok alanında olduğu gibi STEM alanları da erkek hegemonyasının yeniden üretildiği, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliğini barındıran alanlardır. Sosyalizasyon sürecinden başlayarak toplumsal cinsiyete dayalı normlar ekseninde yetiştirilmiş kadınlar, ilkokuldan kariyerlerine kadar uzanan süreçte bu alanlarda kendine yer bulamamış; STEM alanları erkeklerin yoğunlaştığı bölümler ve meslekler haline gelmiştir. Kurumsallaşmış cinsiyetçilik nedeniyle, önce eğitimde sonra iş yaşamında maruz kaldıkları yatay ayrışmanın yanı sıra, belirtilen alanlarda dikey ayrışma ile de mücadele eden kadınlar, çağın gerekliliklerinin gerisinde kalarak çeşitli dezavantajlar deneyimlemektedir. STEM alanlarında kadınların düşük temsili, kız çocuklarına ve genç kadınlara rol model olacak kadın sayısının düşüklüğü, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliği bağlamında bir kısır döngü yaratmaktadır. Tüm bunların ışığında bu çalışmanın amacı; eğitimde ve istihdamda STEM alanlarındaki kadın temsilinin yetersizliğini, kadınların bu alanlarda yaşadıkları sosyal ve ekonomik dışlanma pratiklerini toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliği bağlamında ele almaktır. Bu doğrultuda, konu ile ilgili literatürün taranması yanında, dünyadan ve Türkiye’den örneklerle mevcut durum ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Mevcut bulgular STEM eğitim ve istihdamında cinsiyet eşitsizliğinin genç kızların ve kadınların aleyhine işlediğini göstermektedir.
