Der vorliegende Übersichtsartikel stellt die Rationale der intermittierenden Androgenblockade (IAD) zur endokrinen Therapie des Prostatakarzinoms vor. Es wird ein Überblick über die aktuelle Datenlage der verschiedenen Pilotstudien zur IAD gegeben. In Deutschland hat sich die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Urologische Onkologie (AUO) des Themas angenommen und verschiedene prospektive, randomisierte Studien initiiert bzw. geplant. Bis Langzeitresultate aus klinischen Studien vorliegen bleibt die IAD ein experimentelles Vorgehen. Eine Behandlung sollte nur unter Studienbedingungen erfolgen, wobei zu einer breiten Beteiligung aller onkologisch interessierten Urologen an den AUO-Studien aufgefordert wird.
Die Frage nach dem Wesen und nach der Bedeutung gewisser seltener, auf das Knoehensystem besehri~nkter, multipel auftretender Neubildungen hat in den letzten Jahren das steigende Iateresse des Pathologen und des Klinikers erregt.
