In this literature review, the effect of complex antioxidant therapy aimed at correcting oxidative stress, replenishing vitamin deficiencies, trace elements and low molecular weight peptides, has been studied, resulting in damage to the DNA of spermatozoa. In turn, low DNA integrity indicators are associated with a decrease in the probability of natural conception, a decrease in the fertilizing capacity of sperm, an increase in the frequency of embryonic developmental disorders and miscarriages, and an increase in the likelihood of developing cancer in neonates.
For a significant number of couples around the world, male infertility is a serious ordeal. The truth is that this is also a major clinical challenge for the andrologist – up to 50 % of men with infertility have no identifiable etiology and there is no effective, available evidence-based treatment. For a long time, antioxidant supplements have been used as empiric therapy, but there is still no conclusive evidence that fertility and live birth rates actually improve after this approach has been used. This review is an attempt to summarize current and prospective treatments for idiopathic male infertility. Particular attention is paid to regulatory peptides as promising candidates for improving male fertility.
Introduction. Neuromodulation has proven itself in the treatment of patients suffering from idiopathic overactive bladder and non-obstructive urinary retention, who are resistant to conservative therapy. The possible use of the method in the population of patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) is of undoubted clinical interest.Objective. To analyze the current possibilities and features of neuromodulation in a cohort of patients with NLUTD.Materials and methods. Original research materials published in the PubMed, eLibrary, SciVerse (ScienceDirect), Scopus, Medline, EMBASE databases, websites of professional associations without restrictions on the date of publication were used. Sixty sources were selected for citation, with preference given to systematic reviews, meta-analyses and RCTs .Results. In relation to NLUTD, transcranial and peripheral magnetic stimulation, intravesical electrical stimulation, tibial, pudendal electrical stimulation, and stimulation of the dorsal pudendal nerve, as well as sacral and epidural methods of neurostimulation are considered.Conclusion. The current literature optimistically presents the experience of using neuromodulation in the NLUTD patient population with the largest evidence base for invasive sacral and tibial stimulation. The studies are based on heterogeneous populations, limited by small sample sizes with insufficient descriptive part of the degree and severity of neurological diseases, and it should be considered when forming guidelines. However, the lack of other suitable therapies and promising initial results indicate the importance of further efforts to improve the applied methods of neuromodulation. Further studies are needed with larger sample sizes, better classification of diseases, and controlled study design
Introduction. In this literature review we discuss the etiology, risk factors, and features of erectile dysfunction management in men with liver disease and cirrhosis. Materials and methods. A search to identify original articles and reviews in PubMed, еLibrary, ScienceDirect, Scopus, EMBASE databases suitable for the purposes of this review was conducted by combining the following terms: «hepatitis», «liver disease», «cirrhosis», «erectile dysfunction», «sexual dysfunction» in Russian and English. Results. Clinically significant erectile dysfunction in liver disease can be detected in more than half of patients with cirrhosis, but usually elude the attention of doctors and researchers. Although erectile dysfunction is not a life-threatening disorder, its impact on quality of life is important. Patients with cirrhosis often suffer from comorbidities that are also known to be involved in the etiopathogenesis of sexual dysfunction. While treating ED in cirrhotic patients is a clinical challenge, almost all studies are epidemiological or assess risk factors. Conclusions. The variety of symptoms and the significant deterioration in the quality of life need a multidisciplinary approach and timely intervention. There is a need to evaluate the quality of sexual life in men as part of the examination protocol for liver disease.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
